i think ur doc is justified in doing Radical Nephrectomy. While resecting the tumor , the part of normal tissue beyond the tumor is always taken because thsere is also spread at micro level.Removal of one kidney along with Adrenals will not influence much on your futur life. The surgery procedure is usuallly of one hr. Recoverey is also speedy. It is better to get operated earlier than before it invades adjacent organs and cause metastases.Consult ur Surgeon for further Questioning.

I had a tumor on the outside of my right kidney as well, i had it taken out in December 2005. You have every right to be scared to death. Cancer is scary! However there are alot of things they dont know about it yet. Do they know for sure that its cancerous? If so, what type? As far as surgery, are they doing it with a scope? or open incision? The adrenal gland is part of the kidney, if they take the kidney, they also have to take the adrenal gland! If they do the surgery with the scope and all goes well the surgery may only be about 2 hours, mine took 6 because of the location of the cancer, however, they didnt take my whole kidney! Your recovery will be pretty quick if they use the scope, a couple days in the hospital and a few in bed after. If its an open incision, it will be longer. Sounds like they caught it pretty early, so that is good! email me if you would like to talk dmckinner@yahoo.com. Good Luck, My prayers are with you!

My husband had a large tumor on his left kidney. It tripled in size in 3 weeks. They removed it in a 3 hour surgery and he was in hospital for 6 days due to small complication. He was back at work in 8 weeks. The kidney MUST be removed because even if the tumor is benign it can turn malignant. You can live a full life with 1 kidney. You will need to be monitored by your doctor and lab tests performed on a regular basis. Your blood pressure must be monitored and be very careful about ALL medicine you take. If it is excreted through the kidney you will want an alternative medicine. You must take very good care as it will be the only kidney you have. My husband is 8 years cancer free now so be assured there is hope. Good luck.

I am very sorry to listen to your information. This can be a very difficult thing to prefer, however I consider due to problems that might arise which would endanger your existence and your babies existence, If it was me to your function i might converse to each medical professionals and ask in the event that they would meet you half of means and set off the baby three weeks early which means your kidney operation could be in eleven weeks time. This way your youngster has an extended chance to mature and improve in a position for the world, and you don't take the gamble of whatever going unsuitable for your kidney operation. I do know that systems have developed, but the fact that he has only carried out the sort of operations in eleven years does no longer fill me with confidence, but figuring out that these operations implemented on non pregnant women are finished very efficaciously and that babies born at approx 37 weeks are born healthy does fill me with one hundred% more self assurance. Each and every of your medical professionals has an extra agenda, if you are able to make a compromise like i have suggested I suppose it would be the excellent resolution all round. I desire you and your little one the entire best and i'm hoping everything seems right for you. Quality wishes. Xx

Read as much as you can about why the adrenal gland is removed as well as the kidney.
Look up support groups for your kind of cancer and you will be able to email with survivors and possibly get some get info.
Ask you Doctor to explain why he is choosing this route.
There are SO many people who have totally recovered from this type of cancer, so try not to be scared.
I will put you in my prayers for a FULL recovery and a wonderful long life ahead of you.
YOU CAN AND WILL BEAT THIS!!!!! Put it in God's hands!

Don't worry, you will be ok. I have a friend also have the same condition with you. At first, she was too worried and scared for this sickness. But, after the surgery, she is ok and healthy now. Most important thing is you must be brave to fight with this sickness.
I wish you all the best.
