Yes, there is. If it's not available at a local grocery store or Wal-Mart, you might wanna try a shop that sells "specialty" kitchen items.

I haven't heard of fire proof string for cooking. If you are cooking over direct heat (fire) I would use a skewer. If you use the wood variety suggest that you soak it for at least 45 minutes before use so it doesn't burn.
