What are you looking for in a pet? Is it for show, companionship, agility or something else? Do you want a dog that is constantly active, like a terrier? Do you want a lap dog, a foot warmer, one that needs to be near you always or one that is a bit more aloof? Do you want long hair that needs regular groomer trips, or short hair you can give quick brushings yourself? Do you want one that doesn't shed much or one with long flowing locks? Do you want a dog that is hyper or sedate? One that is longing for long walks or one that loves to sleep on the couch? One that can jump as high as your eyes or one that will wait for you to pet her? Do you want one that can be carried around, or one that will walk on it's own? One that will bark at the slightest disturbance, or one that will take life as it comes? Do you have other pets? Do you have birds, small pets or cats? Do you have children? Do you have lots of company or visitors? Do you have other dogs that visit or come by your yard? Do you have a yard? How much weight can you lift if you had to? How much time do you have at home? Do you move a lot?

Once you can answer all of these questions, then people will be able to give you a better answer as to what breed would be good for you.

Best of luck in choosing a pet!

Shetland Sheepdogs are wonderful. They aren't too big, they are smart, loyal and great looking.
Whatever puppy you get, it's good to take them to a puppy class. Near where you live there should be a dog club that offers these classes. They help get the dog socialized with other dogs, help you teach them essential commands and other useful things.
If you want personality plus, get a Shelty!

Sure...*DON'T* ask here-you'll only "i wuv my whatever".

Go to the AKC site & read the BREED STANDARDS for breeds in the Toy,Terrier & Non-sporting GROUPS.
Go to shows & MEET the breeds in-the-flesh.Talk to the people who actually KNOW & CARE about their breed.

****DO NOT**** fall for the MUTT/MONGREL w/a "cutsie-poo" name stuck on it!! It's ALWAYS a LIE!!

Toy poodles are great. It's been many years since my last one, but if I remember correctly they don't shed. And if they do, it's not bad like long-haired dogs.

Do a good deed, get little mutt from a shelter (I did, I snatched the little bugger from the GRIM REAPER and saved the little " doggles" life from the henchman), I get thanked with big wet licks every day from my "Holly" (sweet and friendly) !
