OK PEOPLE. The term HELL originated with the scandinavians. Except then it was transliterated Hel. Look into Ragnarok or Gotterdammerung.
These were the present in Wagner's Ring of the Nibelung.
Germanic and Icelandic.
The Christian concept of Hell, originated with three terms;
Gehenna, Sheol, and Shades. Gehenna is sort of a garbage pit on the edge of town that burns from time to time, Sheol simply means in the ground, and Shades roughly correlates with the Greek Tartarus.
Addendum: Where did some of these people get their ideas?

i think that almost all the religions believe that there is a hell. Its a place where u will go after doing many bad things in ur life. Its not only hell. i think there is a heaven in every religions too. Although the sceneray or the imaginary scene of the heaven and hell might not be the same for all the religions, i believe that the concepts ,must be the same. Do good, heaven, do bad, hell then.

Adventists don't believe in "hell". They believe in an ivent in which fire comes from heaven and erases cruel people from existance. Paradise will be on the New Earth. Hell is therefore not a fear and Satan who said you won't really die is ultimately a liar. Death is a reality accept it.
Ecclesiastes 9:5
For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.
In other words, the hell that "christians" came up with doesn't exost.

Most religions have some sort of hell, so Christianity is not unique in this respect. Actually Christianity has nothing unique and original as it takes bits and pieces from all sorts of pagan religions and claim itself the one true religion.

Hell is actually a pagan term which has been inserted into scripture as the closest "latin" or "greek" for hades or the underworld. Hel is the name of a pagan norse god who rules the cavernous "hellish" place where dead people go and etc. Dante' Inferno is what gave occasion to the modern concept of Hell. That and the gross misinterpretation of using the word hell to mean the word "sheol" which is grave, death or in effect literally to be covered over (waves), buried (earth), cast down into the depths of the abyss...in effect..to cease to exist. The concept of Hell is actually quite foriegn in scripture as the Bible recurringly over and over again from beginning to end simply states that when you die...you die...at the resurrection there will be a second death for those that have no recieved the atonement of the Blood of Christ as with the Lambs blood over the door posts at Passover. Everything means something in the Bible...check this scripture out...
Isaiah 28:15
Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves:
Isaiah 28:18
And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden down by it.
The absolute darkness is the opposite of absolute light. Light is the symbol of knowledge in scripture..hince the Angel of Light hangin' out in the tree of Knowledge...Jesus being assigned as the light that will shine before all men. One is the knowledge of evil and the other is the knowledge of Good. At the time of the second death...everything that is evil, wicked, corrupt, misused, or against God will be consumed literally in an ETERNAL FLAME...not to be consumed eteranally in a flame...as most christians and other have been led to believe. It is the complete and total irradication and annihilation of evil. When Jesus died on that cross no so long ago in the scheme of things...He made all things new. That means its done..its finished...complete...all that remains is waiting for the last person who ever will recieve Him to do so..."the Gospel preached throughout the earth". When that happens..it will be as it was in the days of Noah. Matthew 24. Look back at Noahs time and you will see that it was a total pagan culture where people would go as far as to sacrifice even their children to the arms of Molech along with every other sort of depraivity known to man. Take a look around and you can see what is coming. Use this tool...
http://www.biblegateway.com and you can enter key terms to look up that will show you the cohesive unity through out scripture..
hell
death
parish
infants
commandments
laws
consume
eternal fire
flames
and etc...as you can think of them.
This site will list out the scripture that contains these key phrases...however, stick to the KING JAMES VERSION. While I study other versions or the NIV for general reading..it has been proven that inspite of a few select translational errors such as using the word hell to mean death...or the grave...it is the closest translation to the origional manuscripts. So...oh as for your answer...I don't know if there are any other religions that consider "hell" but you can look it up on Wikipedia and find out. Love in Christ, ~J~
