SHould we get rid off all religions so that there are no more religious wars?

Or what is a solution?

2006-08-24 21:33:12 · 19 answers · asked by ChipDaMunk 1 in Society & Culture Religion & Spirituality

Then why do people bash other religions by saying theirs is better?

Surely everyone has the right to believe in what they want.

By the way I am not an atheist I am a methodist.

If this has offended anyone it was not ment to do so. It was simply taken from Professor Hawkings Speech as a matter of interest.

Sounds like an excellent plan to me. Let people have faith but disband organized religion.

The logic of this is false and is bandied about by the people who wish there to only be one religion and we all know what that one is.

The one that persecutes, tortures and murders Gays, women and non believers. Do you in your infinite wisdom think for one moment these people are going to listen to you or anyone else.

If you do you are a fool.

Democracy will be laid bare at the feet of this religion as they have already moved to silence protest against their actions and beliefs by the general population of the western world. I fear that the apocalypse lies ahead with pain, suffering and death for the majority at the hands of these cowards as they seek to infiltrate western civilisation and pervert it to their own needs. You might say why hasn t this happened earlier, the answer is other religions, mainly Christianity. Look at the Crusades, the suppression of Sudan in the late 1800 s, the muslim war in India leading to the partitioning and formation of Pakistan (India has had many religious attacks perpetrated against it since and is the reason why these two countries loathe each other) and you will realise this pressure cooker has had a lid on it for a while. It would seem that our so called western leaders have rolled over for these same reactionaries threatening the very being of Christians, Bhuddists, Atheists and others alike.

Religion Or Not Theres Always Going To Be Wars.

No, people should be free to worship how they please. That being said, if people are to be free to worship, they must live in a society that is equally tolerant to all religions.

We must separate faith and government, as this is absolutely essential in a free society. Diplomacy is only possible through compromise, but there is no compromising with absolute faith. Therefore, permanent diplomacy with opposing theocracies is impossible (israel and neighbors). Only temporary cease-fires are possible until one theocracy or the other is destroyed (or changes to a non-theocratic government).

Addendum: To those badmouthing atheism, Yes, there have been bad leaders who have been atheist (stalin is a big one, but he was also communist). This does not make all atheists bad, nor it does not make all atheists communists. I'd also like to point out that no war in history has been fought in the name of atheism, or for the cause of atheism (unlike the judeo-chrisitan-islamic religions).

Wars are effects or reactions of our sinful activities. This is called karma. For example we cannot continue to kill innocent animals in the slaughterhouses for the satisfaction of our tongues and bellies and hope that by joining some religious faith, calling for peace and making organizations as the United Nations we will secure absense of wars. It doesn't work like that. The solution is that we stop performing sinful activities and fully surrender to God.
This is confirmed in the Bhagavad-gita, where the Supreme Lord Shri Krishna states at the end of this great book of wisdom:

sarva dharman parityaja
mam ekam sharanam vraja
aham tvam sarva papebhyo
mokshaishyami ma suchah

"Abandon all varities of religion and just surrender unto Me. I will protect you from the reactions of all your sins."

This is the only solution to all problems.

If we got rid of religion so there would be no more wars, what would Pat Robertson do from then on? You know how he likes to stir the pot by making comments about Ariel Sharon and President Chavez (wanting him murdered).

Mission Impossible. Instead find and use all the ways and means to unite people of all religions. That is the sensible solution.

Religion is a idea or faith. It is the people who try to take and use them as false ways of keeping people subdued and making do what they want. so getting rid of it won't solve the problem.
People religion is a guide line not to be taken to extremes. Everyone is saying there is a spiritual being in our lives and we should be greatful for his hand in our lives. :P

A little clarity if you will, are you suggesting to remove religions or wars or all of the above?

There would be war even without religion. There is no solid solution for a world wide peace. besides, I am rather fond of my religion and think I'll hold on to it!!
