We have had some wonderful holidays in Turkey. We have always felt safe walking the streets at night, that is, in the main holiday resorts. Crime is rare, as the punishments are harsh. The Turkish people are really friendly and make you feel very welcome. They will go out of their way to please. They love children, but if you have women or girls in your party, whatever age, beware of young Turks!! They are full of charm and see ALL women as potential conquests.
If you are buying souvenirs, remember to haggle, it is the done thing. Never pay the full asking price.
Always drink bottled water, and take care in the sun, it is very strong over there.
You may find restaurant, bar and shop owners very persistent in trying to get you to visit their establishments. This can become a nuisance after a while, but try and smile and just say "no thank you, not today" and walk on.
When you arrive at the airport, you will be asked to pay £10 (they only accept £10 English, not Scottish, notes)for an entry visa. that is if you are travelling from the UK.
Hope you have a great holiday.

Oh boy, after reading some of the answers, i was like since i came back to the USA two weeks ago, what a change has happened over there. Meaning, its much safer than the USA,dude. Trust me, I am a man and i cant walk in downtown even in daylight in Detroit its also dangerous to drive in downtown here at night too and if u r from the US, u know what I mean. Turkey is much safer in that way, meaning as long as watch out yourself, u will be alrite. Why dont u give a chance to enjoy your life to the fullest once in your lifetime? hey all big cities have that problem. London, NY, Paris, Madrid,Barcelona, Athens, waht have you. Dark streets are always dangerous in everywhere not only in Istanbul....Enjoy your vac. dude...and no worries about nothing and all u have to do is to use ur streetwise and commonsense and its not just for Turkey but for everywhere too...

You do not need to wach out for anything. You will see when you visit Turkey. I stayed there for two weeks last month.
Note : I advise you to stay at Istanbul, Izmir and Antalya. But If you want to see the most beautiful country in the world, see Istanbul.

Watch out for pick pockets that is the biggest problem. People are quite friendly there. Make sure you bargain about souvenirs because they will over charge. I really liked it there so I hope you have fun!

1. Beggars
2. Handkerchief sellers
3. Restaurants and souvenir shops with a man standing outside the shop. They can cheat you by selling expensive products or services.
4. Taxi drivers. Pretend that you know the way.
that's it... low rate of criminals.. don't worry but be careful..

Watch out for pick pockets and guys who try to snatch your bag/camera. It is better to keep your wallet in a little bag you can have under your shirt than to leave it in your pocket or a bag you carry with you.
Be careful about food and drink, some foods might make you sick. Best is to buy bottled drinks only and to only buy food in places that seem to have relatively good hygiene.

Lots of pick pockets. The gypsies uses young girls around 12/13 to do it. Really sad. Everyone is trying to scam you most of the time. There is a Turkish price and a tourist price. If you have daughters that are hitting puberty then watch out for Turkish men. They are horrible.

Wow!Hope you will have great fun!
I don't think there is anything for you to watch out for.Just don't walk along the darkened streets at night.(common sense)Remember to bring your handphone wherever you go.If you meet danger you can call the police.Always have someone beside you. This is the safest. If you think that that place is too dangerous, choose another country.
