there was a case taken to the supreme court a few years ago, Church of the Lukumi Babalu Aye, Inc. v. City of Hialeah.

The Supreme Court struck down the ordinances by which Hialeah had sought to prohibit animal sacrifice, on the grounds that the ordinances specifically targeted religion in a constitutionally impermissible manner. The Court did not state, however, that a municipality would have to give an exemption from a neutral, generally applicable statute such as the anti-cruelty statute at issue in First Church of Chango, if a municipality wished to use the anti-cruelty statute to stop cruelty to animals in sacrifices.

Of course!
What is sacrifice? As it was always done, animals were slaughtered and people were eating them! We continue doing that! Others are praying and thanking god for the food, others thank their luck, others just eat! And this is true in all times!
As 5,000 years ago, the sacrifice was done in a specific way, the same now! Similarly, then and now, the dangerous parts were returning to nature, without eating them, while the rest was cut in pieces and were distributed to participating individuals!
And this is true either at homes (then and now) and public (then and now)! Nothing have changed, but the names!

Yes it is Legal with quite a few provisions(the animal may not be mistreated and must not "suffer" when killed).
Many like to believe it isn't legal, the First Amendment says otherwise.

Yes, as long as it's not done in a cruel way. If killing chickens was illegal then the Colonel would be in big trouble.
