what file do i look in to correct my sounds in messenger? Or do i have to download something?

- Select the "Alerts & Sounds" category.

Do you mean when you are talking to someone over YM.
Or the sounds you hear when someone calls you.
In the later case click on
messenger > preferences > calling and audio >
play a ringtone when I receive a call. There are four different sounds. If you like none. You can import any audio mp3 file residing on your computer.
Press OK at the end.

messenger - preferences - sounds and alerts then standard yahoo sounds are NORMALLY in c: programme files - Yahoo! messenger - media folder

Remove first and reinstall again yahoo messenger.
