Wow!! Congratulations on your enlistment.
You really picked a much better time for boot camp as September is still pretty miserable but NOTHING compared to the summer months!! Plus you will avoid the winter season. Parris Island is tough enough, without adding to it.
I cannot answer for the Men, but to make Squad Leader for the women Marines you had to be a real go-getter. Be a Leader, be the fastest, cleanest, and most obedient. You will see alot of strong people collapse around you, and that can be jarring at first. I remember seeing grown men crying, and then they were gone. Alot of people have tried to swim off the island, but they never make it. It's a very hard, grueling feat, but I am so proud to say that I made it. It made me a better person.
Alot of people will tell you to kiss A**, but that's just not true, and your Drill Instructors will see right through that and eat you alive. Just be yourself, but be your BEST self!!
Good Luck!!

Marine corps, brother u have no clue of what ur in for. I went to bootcamp sep 15 2003. Its a million times harder and scarier than you can ever imagine. From the beginnng you must teach and yell at your other recruits, lead as if u were a hereo it the only way u can become a squad leader, di's will mess with u more because u have more responsibility, it much harder than the vivid mind could imagine. once you survive you will know what it is to be a marine= forever. This is what makes us who we are, Marines. Do what ur told no matter what. A violent storm awhaits you my friend, chase it, it will make you I promise. Semper fi- kilo

Work hard and follow any order? A tip could be to stop thinking about that and start thinking about how to get through it... Good luck! Youre going to need it! A tip: If you havent read it, reed Tom Clancys excellent book MARINE that is loaded with info. Johan.
More tips: Lead by example, follow order without question them. Plus: Use your time to train hard and get used to long hours if you arent. If you get used to a lot training then youre ahead of the gang so to say. Another tip: Marines hold firing capability high. If you cant get top scores in almost all shoting tests you would never be a marine. If you can try to get some shooting time with an M16A2 or simular and learn about its components. That will impress I think. johan

Good Luck--
Momentarily you need to concentrate on making boot camp 1st and foremost--the Marines boot camp is not easy. My brother was there--it is by far the hardest so I have been told. Keep a positive attitude and respect others---
GOD BLESS AMERICA and you also so on your new journey
BTW-take advantage of this gadget(computer) I do not know when you will see it again..My son was in Navy boot camp his 1st call home-he had to hang up when the red light came on--I am so PROUD of you and your dedication the USA SERVICE...

First, thanks for choosing to join the service. We need more people in every branch and as a current service member, I thank you for sharing the burden.
Best advice I can give you is to be completely honest, don't kiss ***, watch out for your fellow Marines, and give your best at all times. Giving your best isn't just for PT tests or inspections, its keeping that attitude when nobody is watching or nobody cares. Never compromise you character. Listen to your drill sergeant and you'll be fine.
Good Luck and remember that pain is weakness leaving the body.

follow orders to the "T", dont half-step, you must be tough, rough and intelligent. These qualities make good leaders. also, some of it has be some ***-kissing. some may deny this. But , butt-kissing may come into full view as you progress on. GUNG HO to the end

Keep your mouth shut when spoken to. When told to drop, drop without hesitation. Give 100% on everything, no matter how seemingly insignificant the task may seem. Pick up a buddy if they fall. Other than that, its not up to you. Good luck.
