We are moving and don't want to repaint. The bedroom that my three year old will be taking is chocolate brown, a little on the dark side...amazingly she likes it! :) The other room, that my 18 mo. old will be taking, has two pink walls and two green walls, a little on the bright side. Obviously, the pink and green seems much easier to work with, but ideas are still welcome as I want both of their rooms to be nice for them.
Oh, and both kids are girls.

If you're willing to use any paint at all to help these rooms I recommend it.
For the chocolate room paint the trim pink (light pink) and put stripes or polka dots on the walls in light pink. If you don't want to do any painting at all, then I suggest using a lacey curtain of white or really light pink, having white or light pink framed mirrors on the walls, doing her bedding in light pink with chocolate brown accents (small ones) and keeping the floor light. One chocolate brown rug might be okay, though.
For the pink and green room, to lighten it up, and if you're willing to use any paint at all, I've seen my family get a lighter shade of the color that's on there and sponge it over the top of the other color. It doesn't have to be a stark difference, but light enough to see the contrast. It's amazing how much this helps. You could also get a wire brush and brush lines of the lighter colors in vertical lines down the walls to lighten it up. also plastic grocery bags work, rags, etc.
Then I'd use lots of white furnishings and decor in there. Maybe even stick flower appliques on the walls that you can peel off later if you want to. Do a light flowery curtain for the room.
Good luck:)

chocolate brown and pink or turquoise are hot color combinations right now. Pink, especially, would lighten up the brown.
Our last house (rental) had rather bright green paint in all the bedrooms. I found I was able to tame it by using bright colors. I used a similar but even brighter green for curtains in one, and bright turquoise in the other. Both combinations subdued the paint into nearly a neutral.
You could try color samples with the pink and green room to see what works. I would use lots of one of the colors, with accents of the other, rather than using the same amount of both. If you want to add more colors, try a yellow that's similar in value to the pink and green; lavender might be nice, too, especially if you go with lots of green and minimal pink and lavender and/or yellow accents.

Chocolate brown room: baby blue or turquoise and pink. MAyeb something in large polka dots...Do a solid color curtain wiht either a bedspread with the polka dots or a matching solid bedspred in the oppsite color as the curtains and then get the same curtain color for pillows. SOOOOOO CUTE! And then you can also do rugs that match adn a fabric pcture holder board thing w/ the riibbon that hold the pictures on... I LOVE IT!
Baby room: GIRLY BUGS! Do butterflys, ladybugs, dragonflys adn even frogs! My friend's daughter's room is done in this and it is sooooooo cute! She has a butterfly net hanging from the wall an don the wall she cut butterflys out of a wrapping paper and put card stock on the back of them adn has them on the walls liek the net is about to catch them and they are flying off! It is so cute!!!
Have fun!!!

Get some fabric from the fabric store, a fabric that works well with the brown, and has other colors in it. Make big wooden frames of different sizes and put the fabric on the frames. Make some throw pillows out of the fabric as well. This way you can make the brown of the wall work with the colors of the fabric and then pull off other colors of the fabric for the bedspread and other items that you are going to put into the room.

Well as for the darker room I would add bright curtains and accessories. You'd be surprised how nice pink looks with brown. And you should be able to find bed sheets and curtains that would possible have pink and brown in them.
As for the other room, like you said, that one is easier to work with. Believe it or not, I think the brown room will have more character if you manage to bring it together with the pinks. A nice soft pink, not a hot pink. lol

Why not lighten the chocolate brown room up with either a light pink or light green or very mellow yellow. This can be done in the bed covers, curtains and throw pillows. I can invision a lt. pink checked bed cover and curtains with darker pink throw pillows on the bed. Also put lt. pink picture frames around and maybe a lt. brown teddy bair on the bed. As for the pink and green room, why not go with a darker green in the bed covers and curtains or shades. Throw some accessories in with the drk, green, lt. green and pink on them.

The color with which we surround ourselves will without doubt have an effect on us, and so it is important to feel comfortable with our choice.
