Most of the major faiths share common stories and antidotes.
This leads me to conclude that religions were instigated by either gods or extraterrestrials. Something is out there. Something bigger than us.

I think that anything that is man made is bound to have faults of some sort. Man has the ability to lie weather it be for money, status, or some unforseen purpose.
Religion is an obvious fault by man and I say this because there are so many religions. Obviouslly there are going to be things that are not correct when not all religions match.
I dont think that it is a bad thing to have faith or to "be happy". What makes it bad is when you condem other people for believing defferently than you. Having faith is not bad but having bad faith is.
Whatever it is you belive in that makes you happy, stick with it and dont press other people or look down on other people that do not share your beliefs. Even though you have a better chance of believing in something that is fake than something that is real when it comes to religion keep your faith and dont worry about the "man made-ness" of it....

A lot of people nowadays choose not to believe because believing in something makes them open to dissappointment when what they believe are proven untrue. People will tell you that religion is man-made as if something has to be divinely created to be believed. This is of course, not true. You, yourself puts value to what you believe in and don't let others dictate otherwise. The fact that religion is man-made does not devalue religion any more than believing that the sky is blue devalues it's beauty by the fact that the sky appears blue due to the Rayleigh scattering of the white light from the sun.

It's not a bad thing, it just explains a lot of things. We have different religions for the same reason that Europeans drive on a different side of the road. If you took several different groups of people and put them in different rooms with the same materials and told them to build a house, every house would come out different. That's because people interpet things differently. What it means is that people will interpet their own meanings and they are not wrong for that and they are certainly not going to Hell for that. As long as they treat people right and live their lives correctly, they will be fine. It's the people that think that they believe the "right thing" and must detroy everyone who refuses to believe that "Right thing" that are the problem.

I doubt any of the ones involved with the development of the religions as they are known today, had in mind making people happy.. I am afraid religion is not the least bit about people discovering spirituality... rather it's about redirecting the primal questions of the human spirit into a travesty of the truth.. all for a good purpose of course.. yes, of course

Religion and the belief in God or whomever is all man made. The idea that there is a higher power originated from man's inability to explain the world around him in many ways himself, if you look back at the history of all civilizations, tribes, groups etc. you'll find that they each have thier own explanations.

Sure, they figure out what makes people happy, and that is to instill their beliefs unto others, in most cases by force. The Crusades, the Spanish Conquistators and those who travelled to the New World, and the exploiters of Africa....their belief that making others see their point of view will make them happy led to the death of billions.
So yes, religion is man-made, for it does not wholly promote good (discrimination against gays).

The problems start cropping up when the religions stop trying tp figure out what makes people happy and starts becoming a tyrannical straitjacket. THAT's the bad thing.

all faiths are started by men... they band together because of their united belief. no arguments there.... can you tell me of a religion of just one person? can it be called a religion if he is the only leader and the only follower/member?
who are they that states or judges people, calling it a bad thing in trying to figure out what makes people happy? is it a justifiable cause? see people are happy, so let them be... figuring out what makes people happy, in a manner, is using the science of psychology.... therefore, are psychologists bad people then?
no... i disagree it devalues religion. all faiths, beliefs, religion are made by men in order to classify and methodically define their purpose. it is only devalued when one think of it as destructive or in contrary to his own belief, that's his prerogative. but not all men think alike, right?

Yes, religioin is made by man. Science is also made by man. But the Universe is made by God, and people are made by God, and my Faith in God is not a religion. Religion says what you should do to get something. But Faith is different, it says that if you BELIEVE, THEN YOU ARE SAVED, and our Salvation is due to the Lamb of God, and our wonderful Saviour Lord Jesus Christ. And the Faith in Christ is not a religion at all!
