Hi there...try wrapping an anti-skid pad on the side of the toilet your cat chooses to use when he poops. Sometimes this helps kitties when they are straining. I also found that if you can gently steady the cat with your hands while he's going this will help him build confidence and help him to secure his footing as well. You may need to do this for awhile, but it does work. Several of my clients had the same problem with #2 and the personal support of steadying the cat worked the best.

My cat toilet trained himself to use the toilet bowl when he was still a baby too, but after falling in once, he developed a phobia of using it when pooping. So he goes in front of the toilet cistern now to do his poo. Your cat is simply exhibiting perfectly normal behaviour. Don't worry if you're able to clean up after your cat after he does his poo....that's what we do now.....and it's perfectly fine with us anyhow, since my cat does his big business at around the same time every morning when we're still around to clean up after him.
If your situation is different, you can try placing the cat litter over the toilet, get him to be comfortable with it again, and do the toilet training thing all over again. Take note though, that pooing requires more balancing skill from your cat due to more energy and concentration required on the task, which was probably why your cat slipped in the first place. So you need to be non-reproachful and understanding with him on that.
If however, your cat is like mine and does his business at around the same time everyday when you know you or someone will be around to clean up after him, you can absolutely leave him the way he is, since that's obviously most comfortable for him.
Otherwise, sticking to using the litter box is really the best option.
Good luck.

There is help on this from a local pet store. There is a product that is used for training cats to use the toilet. I have two cats and they use the toilet. It sure beats that cat litter and the smell. I do make sure that the toilet is clean before anyone does use it. Just go to the local pet store and see if they can get the product or have one.

Go back to the plastic wrap and kitty litter over the toilet, give it a week and then leave it on there less and less each day. slowly your cat should get the point.
