Tif files are really huge in file size. If your intention is to email them or for web use, scan them at a lower resolution (72 dpi) and save them as a jpg image.

Open that file in a photo editor, like paint, then save as jpg, jpeg. This will save your photographs in a format that can be uploaded.
Also it is possible to save the files as jpg/jpeg directly from the scanner software you are using, instead of saving them as tif.

The scanned pictures are always in tiff format, which is the best and largest (in terms of it size). What you need to do is open the picture in a graphical package i.e. Microsoft Photo Editor, and than click "file" followed by "save as". Now you'll see a dialogue box appear. from the drop down menu under the "save as type: " select "jpeg" format and click "save".
and there you go now you should be able to send your photos via email......
hope this helps.............

tif files are usually very large eg. 3~20MB. saving it as a jpg or bmp file usually helps compresses the size.
