Would you still be a Christian? I'm not trying to get flammed or anything seriously...sometimes I just wonder why other people become Christians...is it because you really love Jesus and appreciate what he's done or is it because you're scared of what will happen if you don't. And yes, I've asked myself the same question. I'm raised southern baptist and it seemed like I learned about Hell before anything else...

Personally I don't care about the whole hell-thing.

I don't like the idea of people making decisions based on fear. I am Christian because of how God is helping me where I am right now rather than some future prize or punishment thing.

I was also raised Southern Baptist. I always wondered how a loving God could send anyone, no matter how bad they were, to a burning hell to be tormented forever. No one gave me a satisfactory answer. I began to study the bible and learned that "hell" is just the common grave. The King James bible translates the word hell as hell, grave and pit. Ecclesiastes chapter 9 verses 5 and 10 says that the dead are conscious of nothing at all. So no one needs to be scared of hell. We serve God because he is a God of love. What he promises always comes true. He has promised that all those sleeping in death will be brought back to life in the near future.

I find mahself asking mah self the same question… truth is that im scared of letting go of mah traditions u see im Catholic born and raised both mah parents come from a Catholic background. Therefore I was taught that there’s a heaven and a hell…and to be honest I stick with mah tradition because I don’t wanna go hell if there really is a hell also because im so use to living this lifestyle that I couldn’t imagine changing it. I want mah daughter (in da future if I ever become a mother lol) to get marry in a church, to do her sweet 15 or 16 in a church to go to Sunday skool just like I did so if there wasn’t a hell I still be Catholic because is in mah blood is how I was raised it would just change who I am and what I stand for.

I totally understand where your coming from. My Grandfather was a Minister, and I remember being terrified of all those Fire and Brimstone stories. Hell was dangled over our heads as a "What -will-happen" if we misbehaved.
Since my adulthood,(and it took ALOT of years to get past all the Hell-Fire stories) I've done my own research, and made my own decisions concerning GOD. I found a Church whose beliefs mirror my own, and one who doesn't cram their own philosophies down my throat. Scare tactics only work for a short time. People rebel. You have to really believe in something to stick with it, and I am now happy to say that I DO believe in Jesus. I believe in Heaven and I think a Hell does exist but I have my own thoughts on it. I feel it is more of a seperation, or isolation from everthing and everyone including God.
Hope this helps. Good Question tho.

Hell isn't a place. Hell means death. In most cases in the Bible, Hell means "death" coming from the word hades, not meaning greek hades but meaning the grave. When people die they die and sleep and wait for Jesus. When he comes he raises everybody, some to everlasting life, others to everlasting shame.

They are destroyed in Hellfire - the second death never to return. Of course the fire will burn for a while. It will have an end, and its end will be when the last being in the fire is burnt up completely.

the other word for hell in the Bible means valley of hinnon or valley of Jerusalem - this link explains this word http://www.keyway.ca/htm2002/hinnom.htm

and the last word which is used once is tartaroō which just means deep abyss, or deep into hades (grave).

Absolutely!! I want to be with the Lord Jesus Christ! He is the only true happiness & ultimate Love in the Universe! All goodness, eternally great & awesome life, wonderous joy, health beyond belief, & impossible dreams come true in His presense alone! Fear of eternal separation from Him would be (and IS ) hell! To know Jesus is Love,...who would want anything less?

Regardless of heaven and earth, I think all religions aim at one purpose. The goal is to guide you to rightfulness.

I think religion should only give you a guideline on how to live your life. If you live your life to the fullest and always try to be the best person that you can be Heaven and hell should not matter.

Tough to imagine all that. Does that mean no matter what you did you would go to heaven, and then no need for jesus's death, hence no need for jesus, hence the word Christian would not exist. DEEEEP DUDE

Early in my life I would then not been Christian. now that i know of all the perks Christianity brings in having a personal relation with god himself, I would not trade it for the world.

After all what does it profit a man to gain the world and lose his soul
