It depends. I usually reserve the "I am in love with you" for the hubby. That's strictly a romantic phrasing. "I love you" can be said to your mom, dad, sibling, friend, dog---you get the point. It could mean great affection, but not in that "I want to get you nekkid" kind of way. Hope that helps answer your question :)

OMG, Yes! There is a huge difference between "I love you, and I'm in love with you"! You can "love" your Dr. or a great pair of shoes. Sure you'd be really upset if something happened to your Dr. but would you get depressed over it? And if you lost your favorite pair of shoes would you cry over them? Probably not! If you're "in love", truly in love, it's unconditional. It's the same love that you have for your parents or child. You never stop feeling it, even if you are not with that person, you always carry a piece of them with you. Being "in love" has committed feelings that will always be there!

What is Love, you ask?
We have different feelings for all the people we love. Partners we love in a different way then we love our parents, for example.
You know, we can say we love a person because we get that 'warm fuzzy' feeling whenever were around that person. Desire is part of this, along with acceptance and compassion.
but I agree, when a person says i'm in love it deals with being fascinated with the person you cannot get off of your mind. When you say i love you it takes it to a whole different degree, where you love them unconditionally and you know that it is the 'warm fuzzies'

Absolutely.
You are "in love" with someone that you want to enjoy a deep, spiritual, emotional, social and physical connection with. The essence of this would be that while maintaining your own very special, precious and unique identities you merge as one being.
Naturally you could only experience this in a monogamous situation.
When you "love somebody" you are connecting with them in a different, less intense, less exclusive manner. Therefore, you could love many people (family, friends, acquaintances, neighbours, colleagues etc) but you would love each of them in a different way and with a different level of intensity. The strength of that love for someone would be based on how that person made you feel and what feelings that person engendered within you.
Naturally, you could love many people but only be in love with one. You would love somebody you were in love with but would not be in love with everyone you loved.
Hope that was not too confusing.

I can say, "I love you," to a family member or a really good friend because it's implying platonic love.
"In love" is used to express an intimacy between, what they should be, lovers.
It's like the difference between the love between a man and a woman and the love between a man and a fine Cuban cigar.

I think so, but not everyone would agree with me. Saying "I love you" means that the person feels deep affection for you. Saying "I am in love with you" seems to suggest a desire or claim of a relationship.
I think being in love with someone requires the other person to reciprocate. One person can not be in love, it takes two people to be in a state of love. You can only be in love with someone if they are in love with you too.
For example, I've loved someone deeply, but we never were in a relationship, so I can't say I've been in love.

two totally different things. I love my mom, but I'm not in love with her. Being in love is passion and fizzle the good things about being in a relationship with someone when you just love someone its like just another thing. Hope I explained a little

Yes, but it all depends on the tone they use. "I love you" doesn't necessarily mean the person is IN love with you. It could just be something they say out of gratitude like, "I love you, dad! Thanks for the car!"
"I am IN love with you" can't be construed any other way except for actual love where you want to be with that person forever and talk mushy crap in bed and all that sh*t that makes me personally want to vomit, but whatever.

Depends on which culture you come from.
In some countries, saying I love you is common among friends, relatives and family.
I am in love with you means he/she is interested in you and wish to start a relationship.

you can always fall out of love. When someone says im love love with you...its more like infatuation, like they cant stop thinking about you...they're almost obessed about you. When they say i love you---it means they accept your faults and flaws and see you as a real attainable person that they like spending time with :)
