Hey don't stress! He is acting like any child his age. Keep doing what you are doing to get his attention. Ask him what is on his mind and he just might tell you. Kids love to tell people what is on their little minds. Don't ever let anyone talk you into giving him any stupid drug. ADD and ADHD is a bunch of BS. Trust me your kid is fine. Good luck!

He probably is a bit of a dreamer, but I wouldnt worry about it at 4. Boys tend to naturally be a bit that way anyway. I would only be concerned if it interfers with his education when he's like 7 or 8, before that it I wouldn't do anything about it. Boys need to be more active. You might try to get his eyes on you when you are saying something really important. Just don't overdo it or it will lose its effect!
I also wouldn't do any ADHD drugs unless the problem is quite big once he's a little older, he will probably grow out of it naturally anyway and those things should be more of a recourse when many other things have failed.

He is 4...anyone who reccomends drugs and says ADD needs their head read. ADD does not get diagnosed till 7 minimum (at least by doctors who know what they are doing). This boy is 4 of course it's normal. Boys are easily distracted and can focus on one thing at a time (does it change as they get older???lol) Don't worry. If you want him to listen tell him Stop and make sure he looks you in the eye and then get him to repeat it back. I still do this with my 7 year old sometimes. He can be easily distracted at times and in no way comes close to suffering from ADD.

My son has the same problem. Hes three and even has a hard time looking me in the eyes. It all a part of growing up and exploring. Most of the time they just want to go go go that to stop for an undetermined amount of time would be to much to ask. What i do is tell my sons that there is a "we" time everyday and all we do is talk for ten to twenty minutes just about anything. This teaches them to listen and express them selves. I find that if you can do it in an environment free of stimulation it works best. Like your bedroom sitting on your bed. I think this a great way for him to learn that sometimes we need to stop and pay attention and it just may benefit him.

I am sure it is normal. a 4 year old is taking in so much. Attention spans are so short at that age. I have 2 kids. If you think they are ignoring you now-just wait a few more years!

4yr olds have the shortest attention spans. He sounds like a deep thinker. You may have a genius on your hands. Encourage his steady stream of thoughts and provide educational activities for him. Put a paintbrush in his hand or crayons. You may be amazed.

It doesn't sound like that big of a problem.
Just don't let people talk you into putting him on ADD drugs. They are no cure, just fuel for other problems.

Take him to a child developmental doctor. If he has a hard time making eye contact with you he could have autism. If not autism, then it could be ADHD or ADD.

i think its pretty normal. kids have short attention spans. do you ask him what he is thinking about? he may actually be pondering what your telling him. he may just really be intersted in what you said a few moments before and still be thinking about what it means. everything is new and exciting when your little maybe you just wow him mom. lol!
