I am remodeling my kitchen and can't decide on weather or not to stay with traditional white appliances or go for the more trendy black or silver look. I just don't want to buy the stuff and have them be out dated in a year. What do you think?

I would go with white for all of the large appliances like your fridge and stove, and black and stainless steel (Silver) for all of the small ones like the coffee maker, microwave, etc.

This way the more expensive appliances will be traditional and never go out of style, and if the flavor of the year is purple for kitchens next year you can just change out the small stuff and still have a fashionable kitchen.

Ultimately, it is your kitchen and your choice.
Hope this helps ;o)

Black and Silver have been the new thing for quite some time now and I highly doubt it'll be going out for quite some time more. I personally prefer black or silver over white because the white ages and starts looking dirty, yellow and old and trashy.
Black is really sleek, but if not cared for also can have problems with it's appearances. Silver is the best, but you have to give it lots of attention to keep it shiney otherwise every fingerprint or splatter or water drop shows up.

We're getting a new place and are getting all silver appliances.

I think white is best for all of the large appliances like your fridge and stove, and black and stainless steel (Silver) for all of the small ones like the coffee maker, microwave, etc. White will always be around and everyone has white and regardless of what anyone says about one keeping more clean than the other one...they all show spots and fingerprints and stuff. Make a list of the features you have to have and those you would like. This refrigerator is going to be with you a long time. Then go to several place looking at them. If you can get a picture of one to see how it works with your kitchen that might help in your decision.

I was in this dilema just a couple of weeks ago. What was your first instinct or gut reaction when you saw them in the store?

White will always be around and everyone has white and regardless of what anyone says about one keeping more clean than the other one...they all show spots and fingerprints and stuff. Make a list of the features you have to have and those you would like. This refigerator is going to be with you along time. Then go to several place looking at them. If you can get a picture of one to see how it works with your kitchen that might help in your decision.

I always thought silver looked very industrial and hard. I HAD to have a bottom freezer. Well the more I looked in stores and magazines the better I like it, expecially with black trim. WOW

The only other advise I would pass on is to check all of your features before you buy. Will it fit under that cabinet? Turned out my freezer is in the bottom, BUT, all that holds the food in is a basket and no walls on sides or back of drawer. So all of that cold air that is suppose to stay in the bottom drawer cuz it has no where to sink is spilling out of the freezer. Luckily my kids are grown and I don't have to pass on Mom's "Close the refrigerator/freezer door. I'm not cooling the whole neighborhood!!!" lecture.

Hope it helps,
Gwen

I would stay away from the black, it shows all dirt and is more likely to go out of style than silver or white which are both safe choices just don't mix the two. It looks better if the color of your small appliances match or complement your large ones as well so think about that. (microvave blender etc.). If you are going with white consider a white sink. If you go stainless think about a stainless steel sink.

Trends change all the time, and they are cyclical. Once everyone has black and silver appliances, white will be fashionable because it is different.

Rather then trends, I think it's more important to look at a couple other things.

-Which do you think looks best?
-What is the best value (price, function, etc)?
-What matches your current or planned kitchen model best?

Hope that helps.

you have probably noticed that stainless costs more, that was enough to make me skip it. I just do not like black so I chose boring white. It is very easy to keep clean (and my husband and I both smoke). One place white does not work is on the top of the ceramic flat surface cook tops. we had that in our last house. It was a pain to keep clean.

Go with silver. It's not that likely to be outdated quickly, and it's not as boring as white.
