JOS 10:12 On the day the LORD gave the Amorites over to Israel, Joshua said to the LORD in the presence of Israel:
"O sun, stand still over Gibeon,
O moon, over the Valley of Aijalon."
JOS 10:13 So the sun stood still,
and the moon stopped,
till the nation avenged itself on its enemies,
Such an event must have had an impact globally. Is there any evidence(outside the bible account) from that point in time that suggest the sun stood still in the sky for some time. I will also accept any evidence in the world of an extra long night.
thankyou

NONE. Chinese astronomers did not record that event, or the Mayan, or even the Egyptians living near there. No contemporary evidence to support the claim, just like the historical Jesus.

Here's an exerpt from a site I found (I didn't write this, someone else did):
"What about the Sun and Moon incident in Joshua, can you explain that?
"Sun, stand still over Gibeon; And Moon, in the Valley of Aijalon."
So the sun stood still and the moon stopped till the people had revenge upon their enemies.
...So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven and did not hasten to go down for about a whole day. (Joshua 10:12-13)
No, I cannot explain this. Again this would be a miracle, but again God seems to leave a trace. In paper #Y116. 360 vs. 365, I calculated that the astronomical data from the Book of Enoch indicated a year would equal 364.81 days before the flood. Then before or during the flood the timespan of the year shortened to 360 days per year until the Sundial incident in Isaiah 38:8 (around 700 BC) when the year then became 365.24 days per year.
The difference between Enoch's year of 364.81 days and our current year of 365.24 days is an increase of 0.43 days, which equals 10.32 hours. Depending on the season our daylight lasts for about 8 hours in the winter months and 16 hours in the summer months. Lets take an average day with 12 hours of daylight. Stop the sun at 12 noon for a time period of 10.32 hours and then continue with the rest of the day. You now have one day, which has almost doubled the average daylight hours from 12 hours to 22.32 daylight hours.
...So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven and did not hasten to go down for about a whole day. (Joshua 10:13)
Now this miracle could have been a localized event or a global event. In any case there seems to be evidence of some event that took over 10 hours at sometime between the flood event and the Sundial event around 700 BC. It appears that in the Isaiah 38:8 Sundial event, God also allowed an extra 10.32 hours per year to represent evidence of the Joshua 10:12,13 event.
Again, this evidence hardly proves the events of Joshua 10:12,13 but does provide a trace that God has been in control.

Did you know that
A. The earths poles are switching and the shift is moving faster with time.
B. That one of the large hurricanes we had a while back (forget which one) actually slowed the earths rotational spin.
and the spin has been slowing down year after year.
very strange.. im not sure if this could make the sun stop in the sky.. i guess if the spin of the earth actually stoped briefly or slowed way down it would appear to half the globe that the sun stopped moving
Here is a site there are also many goverment sites on the subject.

Worlds in Collision is a book written by Immanuel Velikovsky and first published on April 3, 1950
The book proposed that around the 15th century BC, a comet or comet-like object (now called the planet Venus), having originally been ejected from Jupiter, passed near Earth. The object changed Earth's orbit and axis, causing innumerable catastrophes which were mentioned in early mythologies and religions around the world. Fifty-two years later, it passed close by again, stopping the Earth's rotation for a while and causing more catastrophes.
Not a perfect answer, but it is an explanation outside the Bible.

"Sun stood still" The earth goes AROUND the sun, not the other way around. It just appears as if the sun moves around the earth. Galileo proved that ( Which got him into a whole lot of trouble with the church at the time) .
The ancient Egyptians firmly believed that the sun was pushed around the sky by a giant Dung beetle!

The sun can't stop because it doesn't move. If the moon stopped we wouldn't be here now. Too complicated to explain but believe me it couldn't happen just like that. Let science prevail. No extra long nights, no extra long days, just day after day the same old stuff.

BAH!
I heard that there is proof of this, but I didn't write down who it came from.
It was in a documentary on ancient climate patterns proven by tree-rings etc.
