I'm sorry but there are a lot of dumb people on this site who not only are stupid but attempt to make others feel stupid too. I was reading this question and people kept saying take the cat to the vet! Here's my POV, everyone knows that when a cat is in serious trouble, you take him to the vet. You don't say, yes I do. But people come online and ask questions for a reason, to get more info, find possible home remedies (i.e. pepto for upset stomach, I didn't know that until I read the PET forum), the point being people ask to get info beforehand. Sometimes this saves them a trip to the vet othertimes, it prepares them for a trip to the vet, regardless, telling them to take it to the vet really doesn't help especailly when said in a rude manner. Why do people constantly respond to pet questions with take it to the Vet?

This website was designed for people to ask questions and and provide the best answer. Some where, people who are competing for points have decided to just provide stupid answers to boost their score.

OK, I think you are mistaken. However many details a person posts, there is nothing that can make the diagnose safe unless a vet examines the pet. NO home remedy can be really safe when a cat is ill - and nobody can give you good enough advice that will be guaranteed not to put your cat in another danger.

I usually try to give _some_ advice I find sensible, under or above the "go to the vet" variation. But going to the vet is the _only_ thing that has some chance to get your ver some professional care.

I think a proof of that would be the number of people who (at least by their claim) are vets, or vet techs, or vet trainers - and who also advice to take the pet to the vet. I think you should make your own conclusions from that fact.

Sometimes that's the best answer cause they have posted a very serious problem their pet is having. For example, I was reading one post where someone said the cat was laying in the driveway foaming at the mouth with it's eyes glazed. What shoud they do? The only answer for that question was to take it to the vet. Something serious was happening to the cat and they were wasting time posting the question on here during an emergency. I know sometimes people say that right off the bat when sometimes there are home remedies but what I am saying is that sometimes that is the best answer to their question.

DO NOT GIVE ANY PET 'PEOPLE' MEDICINE. And yes call a vet, the same way you shouldn't give a child something weird you got off the internet without consulting a doctor. I trust vets more than doctors since they undergo more extensive training and have broader backgrounds. Also less fake degrees. I dont believe anything I read on the internet from anyone. How about this "CALL the Vet." People sometimes feel insecure because of costs, that's why they're here. And sometimes it's a minor thing - 'my dog ate a twinkie' etc and nobody says 'see a vet. ' Caveat Emptor' and you get what you pay for on a site like this - just like wikipedia.

It has been said already but you (not you personally as your cat is not sick, I just mean people in general who have pets) should never, ever under any circumstances give human medicine to any animal. It could cause them even more pain and trauma, human medication is for humans, the vets is the only place to go when your pet is sick, or may be sick. Any decent owner would have their pets insured, this should help a long way to paying vets bills, and is the loving and caring thing to do. people feel strongly about animals, which is why they get upset and can come across as stroppy or rude.

Most often the answere IS to take the cat to the vet. We can only make guesses usually as to what is wrong with the cat. And often these queastion also say I can't afford to go to the vets. Why guess when it comes to the health of your cat. Would you also want to guess to your health or your childs health.? I seriously doubt you do!If its a behavioral queastion then YES usually we can offer answeres that help. But a sick cat needs the same medical help that a human needs to be checked by a doctor which is the vets.

I think "Take it to the vet" can be part of an acceptable answer, but it should be "You should take it to the vet because..." But then again, you've got the point hoarders on here that might kill the poor cat if they had to come up with a real answer...
