Please could I have the basic recipe for rout, the ones that hindi people make when having Khatha & Junda prayer. It's round, brown, fried and taste like a biscuit. I am not talking about roti.

STAR ROUTE LOAF

3 c. milk
1/3 c. sugar
2 1/2 tsp. salt
2/3 c. shortening
2 pkgs. yeast
1/4 c. warm water to dissolve yeast
9-10 c. flour

Scald milk; stir in sugar, salt, and shortening until shortening melts; cool to lukewarm. Sprinkle yeast in warm, not hot, water. Stir to dissolve. Combine milk mixture with yeast in large mixing bowl. Add half the flour and beat well. Add remaining flour until dough handles easily. Turn out onto lightly floured board. Cover and let rest for 15 minutes. Knead 10 minutes, then place in lightly greased bowl.
Cover with damp cloth and let rise in warm place, free from draft, until doubled, about 1 hour. Punch down; let rise again until almost doubled, about 1/2 hour. Divide dough into 3 parts and shape into loaves. Place in 3 well-greased 9 x 5 inch loaf pans. Let rise a third time, about 1 hour. Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 35 minutes, until nicely browned. Remove from pans to cool. Lightly grease top and sides while hot.
