The similarities:

Blacks, by law, were property, animal workers, less than human. Because that was the law, people believed that was right and true. Blacks were breaking the law if they tried to stop being slaves and live like human beings.

When the law and rules changed, blacks were allowed to be free, people got angry and believed they should go back to their own country, that they are trying to take white peoples land.

Today the belief is illegals are criminals no different than killers, savages, and should be treated as such because the law say they are criminals all the same. It's believed that illegals who are trying to feed their families and live a good life here are breaking the law.

Some are fighting for things to change enough for them to stay. Many believe they don't belong here and should go back to where they came from, that they're trying to take our land.

The situations and attitudes, though not exactly the same, seem similar and immoral. Your thoughts?

trutbknown: By the way, I am black, I know all about the history of slavery.

To everyone else, I've learned here that I absolutely must be retarted for thinking their is even remotely a tiny similarity between the two. (I'm serious when I say this) I must be bi-polar or have some sort of psychosis because I honestly see the similarities very clearly, which proves there is something wrong with my mind.

I apologise for my incredible stupidity, but if I really was born with phychosis, it really isn't my fault. But now that I know, I'll try to find medication to take. I might think like a logical thinking human being afterwards.

I know what I've just said may sound like I'm being a jerk, but I'm not at all. I person who is obviously wrong about something that they cannot see, should be mature enough to admit their foolishness, and so that is what I'm doing right now.

Forgive me.

Again, my apologises.

Please DON'T apologize, you are entitled to your views and don't let those here make you feel like you are out of your mind, because you are not! I think your very sane, more than most here!

Absolutely....I see many similarities....The bashing and racial slurs are very pronounced and blatant.....It saddens me that we see our fellow human beings as animals, simply for seeking a better life....I don't support those who come here and commit serious crimes....But those, which are the majority, just come here seeking a better life for their families, should be allowed to come in and get registered and be allowed to pay taxes....

Are people's attitudes being steoro typed? In slavery days, there where those forslavery, and those who fought wars against it. (Civil war) There were those who shot escaping blacks, and those who helped them escape.

Same today. Not only illegal immigrants want illegal immigrants to come here.

My family never owned slaves.

There is a difference between illegals and immigrants. Illegals are attempting (for whatever reason) to circumvent the system to come to America. Immigrants, on the other hand, are going through the proper channels and receiving the proper documentation to be here.

I believe that everyone should have the opportunity for a better life for both themselves and their families, but if they don't follow the proper procedures, then everything they have done will be in vain because they will get caught and they will be deported. It's only a matter of time.

Just my opinion.

There have been white slaves in history.
There is no comparison in the distant black slavery and the current issue of illegal immigration.

You are right, the situation is not the same, but it's similar.
Let's just not forget that this nation was created by "illegal" immigrants who took away (and by force) the lands of the natives!
...and NO ONE told them to go back to their homeland.......

One more thing: Illegal immigrants far from neing a burden to this country, contribute enormously to its economy.
Have you ever seen the paycheck of an illegal immigrant?? Yes, thousands of these people get a paycheck (they don't just work "under the table" as many of you would think). If you look at their paychecks you will see the same deductions you see on your check: FICA, SDI, Medicare, blah, blah, blah. But they cannot claim any benefits at all. What happens to all this money?? Do some research... Standard & Poor's already did...

Oh, by the way, you DO NOT need to apologize. You see the similarities because there ARE similarities!! You are viewing both sides as a HUMAN BEING, and you realize that the human rights of these 2 groups were and/or are violated.

No, because slaves had monetary value. That's what Chief Justice Taney's judgment in the Dred Scott decision was all about.

As for criminalizing status: "Illegal immigrants" include many who were legal but who lost their status by accident: failure to file a document on time, death of spouse or divorce before confirmation of status, loss of qualifying job; mistake by a lawyer or by the government ("The government is not responsible for the errors of its agents").

Blacks were sold into slavery by blacks in Africa. Ask, were there any laws against blacks selling blacks into slavery in Africa at the time? Do you realize that white were sold into bondage also?

Illegal aliens are criminals, they break the law. No similarities...except that illegal aliens home countries are driving them out... and illegal aliens are deserting their home countries. DESERTERS and CRIMINALS... is it any wonder the legal citizens of the USA do not want them here?

Just because our politicians are corrupt and REFUSE to put an end to the ILLEGAL ALIEN INVASION, doesn't make it right.

As a Sovreign country. we can not allow everyone the just run accross, drive, fly or otherwise cross our border illegally and not stop it. I believe all people have the right to a good life. If the good life is out of your reach simply because you live in a diffferent country you must do it legally. As for the blacks/illegals comparision, most early blacks were kidnapped from Africa brought to the west indies for a few years and then Brought to America. not the same.

Don't worry Yu Yevon. I've learned already that by just expressing your opinion or stating a thought people jump on you and call you names and try to belittle your intellegence. It's best to know that Not every one will agree with you but to not mind the ones who don't and who are so threatened by a thought or an idea that they have to put you down. The ones you really want to care about will say I don't agree in a manner that simulates an intellegent arguement without criticizing you. There is logic in your question if others see it or not.

I don't think there is any comparison, blacks did not come here by choice. I have no problem with anyone coming to this country LEGALLLY, why just bring up blacks? Why not the Irish or the Italians? They were slaves first, read the books! No one is treated fairly now a days, but why should illegals be treated better than U.S. citizens? It seems to me even if you come here legally, you have a better chance to make it in this country than most of us that were born here with grants. I would love to open my own business, but my country won't give me a $40,000 grant to do it, but they will give it to someone moving to this country. How fair is that to the HARD working AMERICAN?
