Well if you read the bible you will note how it lists the age of each man and offspring and what age they had their children from adam all the way to Jesus. And if you add it all up you come up with approx 4000 years. Yet i dont know if that a year in that time is the same as what we consider a year now. It sounds impossible yet we still know next door to nothing about how our earth was created. Scientists have a theory in how old the earth is and how long Humans have been around but it is only theory based on flawed asumptions. For example Carbon dating uses a measurement of how fast certain isotopes disapate and assumes that whatever the rock is or bone fragment started out with a certain amount of this isotope. when in reality they will even admit that there are certain conditions that would cause this isotope to disapate more rapidly. There was an experiment done a few years back and ill see if i can research it on the net again where they took some animal remains and the people who held this experiment knew when this animal died which was 20 years ago. they had scientists come in to date this animals bones. Their findings was that the animal died 500 years ago.. not 20. Truth animal died 20 years ago. Scientists say 500 years ago. Scientific dateing accurate? i think not

We are not sure.
Some have added the years of all the people who live between the two dates,. I.e. if so and so was born when so and so was 50 years old and added these up. They get 4004 BC for the Creation, Jesus was born in 4 BC, 4000 years minus the 930 years of Adams life would be 3030 years.
Some think that the genealogies might not have included every generation and that therefore there would be more years. There is no verse that clearly says a number.
Ps. for the skeptics remember that the secular Historian Josephus established that there was a historical Jesus. I also remember archeological evidence of King David (look to Biblical Archeology Review about that.)

Well we know that Adam was created on the 6th day (year 1)and died at the age of 930 years old and Moses wrote the book of Genesis in the wilderness this was completed in 1513 BC.
Then Christ was born so you start again from year one, that was 2000 thousand years ago. So, you work it out.
Remember Man is only 6000 years old.

Somewhere between 3000 and 4000 years, but I would lean nearer to 3500 years as a high date and more likely to be around the 3000 mark as it is now just over 2000 since Christ's birth and we are rapidly approaching the 6th day or millenium, if not already in it, by the Jewish calendar and the 7th day was set aside by God.

Well, considering that Homo sapiens first appeared some 100,000 years ago, and that Adam was the first Homo sapiens, and that Jesus was born in 4 BC, I'd say 100,000-2011-Adam's life span= +/- 97,959 years, considering that Adam, as any normal early human being, would have lived only about 30 to 40 years...
Science and religion are not incompatible... :-) I'm a muslim, but I also believe in scientific proof. To me, evolution is only another wonder of God.

About 3400 years. It was about 4400 years from the creation of Adam to the birth of Christ, and Adam lived 940 years.

Im not sure, but it was whenever man was first here on Earth until about 2.ooo years ago. We ask too many questions to know things that we dont need to know.
Just be truthful and follow from your heart. You will have all the ansers in the next life.

There is no mention of time - but there is a geneology spread throughout the bible running from Adam through David to Jesus.

The question isn't specifically answered in the Bible. Most Christians believe that it is about 4,000 years. Christians believe the earth to be around 6,000 yrs. old. Christ died 2,000 years ago and that leaves about 4,000.

No one knows! Nor is it likely that anyone could determine this because of differences in measuring time during the period. And your question begs for a follow up question. Why would we care? If it were important God would have told us.
