The reason for the existence of diversity in the forms and names of God in the Hindu religion is simply a practical observance of a great principle they firmly and strongly believe in. .
The Hindus are the oldest thinkers in the field of theology. but the most modern and scientific in this regard for ahead of their times.
The basic and fundamental principles of hinduism are that :
(1)God is Omnipresent
.(2)God is Omniscient.and
(3)God is Omnipotent .
It is said that the other major religons of the world are also said to believe in this principle .BUT IT IS NOT TRUE.
For instance , you know OMNIPRESENCE , means present everywhere . It dose not make any . exception at all. So if any body believes that God is everywherE , he would be able to see God evErywher. There can be NO EXCEPTION. Nobody has the capacity or authority to tell God not to be present in any place or thing . The Hindus genuinely , honestly and truely believe .that God is Omnipresent . They believe that God is present in, everybeing and everything animate and inainimate too. Even among the inanimate , god is in evrything , from dust to diamond , grass to animals. In fact that they believe that God is the motive force of all things and nothing is dead in this world or universe and nothing can ever be destroyed , because of the presence of God . This is true scientifically to - that matter can never be destroyed . Scientists and knowledgeable people won't dispute this but people believing inohter religons .especially Christianity might deny it . bevcause those believers have killed scientists who revealed truths and scientific facts in the past .( for them knowledge is anti-biblical or anti religious ) But for hindus gnowledge is the highest disci;=pline throug which yo see God. (vide ;teachings of krishna in Bhagavad Gita).
That is why the Hindus worship anything and everything . God ,according to them, is present even in the soul of a dog . But other religions DO NOT BELIEVE IN THE OMNIPRESENCE OF GOD .
They say that the animals have no souls and God is not in amimals and plants and inanimate objects . For them God is in heaven and in humans only. May be they excepted animals from the places wher God can be present , so that they can kill animals to eat.They have identified some places - a lot of places where is God is not present or banished God from being present in certain places of their choice. God still needs thier permision to be omnipresent .. May be their food habits

So they do not believe in the omnipresence of God .They do not believe in the potential or power of God to be present everywhere . The Hindus belive in thegod'd power to be present in everything and everywher . (that is his omnipresence)
For this reason only , the Hindus believe that they are NEVER OUT OF THE SIGHT OF GOD ( beause god is everywhere and there is no place where God is not present at any time ). AND GOD IS ALSO NEVER OUT OF THEIR SIGHT .
This is an unique and great principle tha is supported even by science , but not found in any other religion. The very reason for the plurality of of the existence of god is to be traced to this basic principle . You know that all matters in this world are made up of the same basic particles of energy . The electron and proton are the basic componetnts of all atoms of all elements and all maters , things and objetcs , visible and invisible are all made up of the compounds and mixtures of all the elements
in certian required proportions and that these matters are indestructible , but can only be changed. The electron is the only particle of energy that is always acting , working incessantly , non-stop even wiothout any fuel or any other force causing it to to be active . this wonder particle is working in the mass in the universe even from a time far ahead of the time the universe itself came into being . It is origin is timeless , It was never born but was always presnt there .It is undying too. It is present everywhere and in everything . It is this that makes everything , from dust to diamond from grass to Gold . nothing excepted . It is the life of every being in the world , in the universe without exception. even the apparently motionless inanimate thing has in its atom , teh electron tha ios spinning with enormoous speed around th eproton. it is brimming with energy , for knowledgeable persons . the hindus are highly kowledgeable in this regard . What is wrong in the Hindu philosophy to consider that God is omnipresent and there is no place where God is absent.?
This is the reason that the hindu religon allows any one to worship any god of his choice andi n any form and in anyhing and call it by any name . That is the reason for its democratic character that grants freedonm to all and never places any restraint on any one's choice of any name for any God . This is the unique ability of this religion to co-exist with any other religion

Secondly , God is omniscient. This is only a corollary of the first principle . Hinuds consider that nothing is beyond the ken of God .The very fact that God is omnipresent makes it natural for God to know everythng in everybody's mind and every place too. So the Hndu Gods do not ask them what they did and when they did and where they did something .For the God knows everythig without anybody haveing to tell and explain. God also knows why man did something because he is in his soul too all the time and so he does not have to ask him For no one is out of sight of God and God is never out of sight of man .
So with these two qualities , God natrally is Omnipotent .God has created the universe and all things in it and God sustains everything he created and God annihilates everything he sustained , for re-creation. God creates te universe , God creates all the things and beings on the universe , God sustais life as air water , food etc .God alone remains unchnaged , immutable , undying , absolute and infinite . No mortal being has any authority or sole agency over the God . No one has the athority to tell you that you can reach god only throght his proper channel .For God ceated the entire universe without the permission or authority of any moratal being . God does not recruit people to any school or military academy. God being omnipresent no one can claim that anybody can approach god only through any one Rishi , saint , a prophet or a Messaiah.

There is no such mess in Hindusim . God is not disciplined by any mortal being according to Hinduism. .It is the God who rules over everything , God's dictates alone can run in this world and god is capable of doing it without the assistance of any mortal agency.
This is the essence of the hindu philosophy. This is the reason for the hindus having any number of god s and names .Even new forms and names can be created , For nothing is creared out of anything that God does not reside .The Hindu philosophy is scientific and because , people do not understnd its meaning and practices and are prejudiced by thouhgts of their own philosophies , it is not known to the world . The hindus by the nature of the philosphy of the religion . do not go about converting people to its fold for the hindus believe in the universal worship and no one is requird or compelled to restrict worship to any particular type of God . You can worship or pray with the two hands folded and kept togother or salute or not , just look or not . You are not required to perfornm any mass drill to pray or worship the a hindu god .You can een see the hindu God in the dark empty space of the sky or in the star or moon or sun or air or fire or water or dust, a piece of stone .in your house and in your court yard too. Ther is no place where God is not present ,
This is the diffence of the Hindu religion from others . you can see krishna revealing the shape of the Universe to Arjuna in response to his wish to reveal the totality of God to him. It is the Universe that krishna reveals to Arjuna as the true form of God . See the description fo the viswaroopa which gives you and idea of the creation , sustenance and annihilaion of theuniveerse as by the black hole and its recreation after some eons . it is said that takes an eon for Brahmma to crae the universe , the eon being some billions of years and it being half-a-day for the creatot . the universe continues from dawn to dusk , another eon 9 another half -a-day for Brahmma).in tehefeining of Brahmma , the universe folds into him and remains in action tehr for another eon till the dawn and in the dawn comes into being again. This corresponds to the process of the coming into being of the universe , its lif and its destruction (collapse) for recycling . God is pictured as the womb in which the seed of life of all beings is placed by nature for procreatiion .
God is shown as space .- a being of non-being with infinite quality and unborn and undying nature , pervading everything ,sustaining everything , standing undivided while objets and things stnd divided in it . Just go through the verses of Bahagavadgita and enjoy the pleasure of seeing theultimate truth that is even beyond the kenof the latest scientific reseach. Scinece is still groping the dark recesses of the space which vyasa has brought o tyour view some 6000 years ago.the philosophy being too modern and scientifci it too difficult for all to understand . May be in the years to come , at the end of the miseries tat the world now undergoes , it might relize what it has missed all along to undergo all the travails .
It is boon the world has missed . It is a bane that people have not realized it .
The Hindu mythology is replete with stories meant to be practical instnces of the principles of the religion wherein you see tha even the all powerful gods are not exept from punishment for their sins . Hinduis forbids sin by even gods . hinduism upholds truth and honesty and to prove th efficacy of this proinciples has mythological stories where the gods have been humbled by the creatures of their own creation when the Gods tested them.(Theseare stories narrated with refernce to certinhistorical personalities ans imaginary characters to impart the character and nature of certain truths in th peinviples aof the hindu religion.
