I already use kongs, but I'm just looking for some other suggestions. I'm worried he gets bored when I leave him.

Kongs are great! They do have several different variations so maybe a different version would be good. I love the toys where you can put food in it and they have to roll it all over to get the food to drop out; a few kibbles at a time. Keeps my boys busy all day playing with that silly thing plus it's funny to watch. :P
But any toy you Do get for him, just think about any potential injuries that toy could cause. Will it be a choking hazard? Could he get it caught in his teeth (rope toys do this sometimes), etc. It's worse than buying toys for a baby! lol

Everyone is right with a chew toy suggestion. Those are great time killers , those densely pressed rawhide bones are the best, because it takes so long to consume them. Make sure you don't buy the dangerous greenies which are so popular(!) but actually cause blockages because they form a gelatin and get lodged in the dog's system anywhere from the throat to the intestines. I have a toy basket in the living room in which they love to dig for the bones or toys. They have like twenty toys in there and people totally make fun of me, but my dogs have never chewed anything because they know they have all those toys.

The Kong is a great toy to give dogs when you'll be gone for a while. Pack it tightly with kibbles and your dog will quite possibly spend all day trying to get at the food and not your furniture.

I recommend a Nylabone for a crate toy. The dog can't bite hunks off and choke on them, and they don't cause intestinal obstructions.

They relieve anxiety separation, and when the dog has chewed on them for awhile, they "frill" which helps with gum and teeth health.

You can buy flavored Nylabones if the dog is bored with regular ones, or you can simply toss the old Nylabone in a pot with beef or chicken broth and boil it for awhile.

My German shepherd is a "chewmeister" and I only give her Nylabones for unsupervised play.

definitely the kinds that you can hide treats in. I like to get a nylabone and cover it with peanut butter than freeze it over night and the day it is a doggy popcicle. Takes them a while to eat since it is frozen.

let him chew on a frisbee
turn on a dog movie
dog ropes
(my dog likes the massage chair left on)
Dust bunnies
Set up a laser light disco ball so he can go chasing it around in cicles

I agree with Wendy. Our puppies play with lamb bones all day. Only ever give them raw bones. Cooked bones can chip etc.
