My first emplyer from 20 years ago is about to retire and I have been invited to the party. What would be a good and appropriate present to give him. I worked for him for 3 years and have not been in touch for 12 years.

Well if you can remember, what interests or hobbies did your old boss have? Golfing, boating, etc. Get him something that relates to his interests. Or when all else fails, a nice, expensive bottle of wine works perfectly.

Do you know or can you find out what his retirement plans are?
