How about Google, or Wikipedia or an Encyclopedia? I read "The Encyclopedia of World Religions" once in a library and found it to be helpful. Or if you live in a large metro area you could perhaps go to a Synagogue and ask to attend Shule or ask a rabbi about this. Or better yet, ask a Jewish friend? (you said technically you were Jewish, so I assume your mom is/was born Jewish, so maybe you already know some Jews?) Also don't be afraid to read the Talmud.

Tons. There are Jewish outreach organizations which just do that and are all over the globe. The three largest are Chabad Lubavitch, Aish Hatorah and Ohr Somayach. You could probably find a local centre or individuals involved who are located near you by checking online. All three also have lots of information for beginners and could refer you to plenty of material and lectures.

m not sure where you live, so how can one know if there are free schools there?

You may want to check out:::

to begin with!

Where you live there is, most likely, a synagogue to learn at, and they rarely charge more than the costs for photocopying the materials they hand out in class..... Check the synagogues near you.
