I think I might be so I kind of need help.
Okay, my eyebrow piercing currently has a 16g silver barbell in it and it's always swelling up and getting infected and what not. I don't know why because I clean it daily. Most of the time the swelling subsides but comes right back.
I just got my cartilage pierced around 2 months ago and at first there were no problems but now it's swelling and looking gross. Not infected gross but just...ugh.
Does anyone else have a similar problem with this kind of jewelry? I'm going to get it checked out next week by my piercer and see if they can change both piercings to something with pure gold in it seeing as how I've never had problems with that.
Oh and just out of curiosity, when I get it changed, will the swelling stop or continue? or...am I being slow? I dunno, I just wanna make it stop. :|

I'm allergic to silver, although not if I wear it as a ring or necklace. Earrings are a problem. I can't wear silver earrings (and I've tried both pure and sterling) for more than half an hour without developing a scaly rash around the hole that doesn't go away for days afterward.
If you are having an allergic reaction to the metal, it will stop and the swelling fade when you remove it.

I am. I break out whenever I touch silver or if I wear silver jewelry (I was called Werewolf in highschool.) I guess I'd reccomend titanium or something because that sounds painful and I'd hate for you to get an infection. My industrial got an infection after swelling and it hurt so freaking bad.

piercees bill of rights #9. To have initial piercings fitted with jewelry of appropriate size, material, design, and construction to best promote healing. Gold-plated, gold-filled or sterling silver jewelry is never appropriate for any new or unhealed piercing
get the jewelry changed and see if it helps, odds are you were actually pierced with stainless steel not silver, but your likely just having a bad reaction-try titanium

I am allergic to silver. I can't wear any kind of silver jewellery, even the nickle free.
Try changing to gold or surgical stainless. If you keep getting infections, see your doctor. Persistant infections from piercings can spell trouble.

I'm too alergic to silver. I think it was due to the long term usage. I'd an infection every time I used silver. The only thing that I could use is only gold.

I am allergic to ANY metal that goes in my body. I've had my ears and belly button done both by different metals and they both have basically been forced out. I think some people's bodies just can't be pierced...you could always try gold or a cheaper metal just to see.

Most silver jewelry is mixed with other alloy metals which can cause skin rashes.
Sterling silver is 92.5% (925 parts) pure silver and 7.5% (75 parts) alloy metal.
Silver and gold alone will not cause allergic reactions.

Nickle is the most common metal allergy, and it's frequently alloyed with other metals. In fact, most people don't have metal allergies until they have a piercing and develop a nickle allergy.
