I have a german shephard/black lab mix that I adopted last year. We are his third owners. I love him to pieces but unfortunately life has changed and I need to put him up for adoption. Does anyone know of a way to do this in clatsop county oregon that will ensure he get a good owner. I hate having to do this but i need to make sure he go to a really really great home.

check with the original adoption agency first. many require you to return the dog to them. they understand that life changes and sometimes we are unable to take our best friends with us. NEVER OFFER A DOG FOR FREE. anyone who is going to be a suitable owner should not mind having to pay a reasonable adoption fee (you can always send the money to a local rescue if you are not interested in the money aspect, but it will ensure your dog will not go to someone with ill intentions)

If you can bring him up to Eugene, there is an animal shelter called Greenhill Animal shelter. Dogs and cats are kept there in environments that are usually better than where they are adopted to. Also the Oregon Humane Society has a very lenient euthanasia policy. My dog was in for about 9 months before I adopted him. He also had medical problems and they took care of those too.

Put an ad in local news paper, or post ads online. make sure the adopting party have the knowledge and financial ability to afford to care for a german shephard/black lab mix. make sure they have plenty of space so the dog can grow healthly and happily.

I do dog rescue and there is one thing you DON'T want to do when placing your pet.
#1-NEVER give your dog away free!!! ALWAYS request a nominal adoption fee. People place value on things they pay for and you also protect your dog from being gotten for free only to be sold to a lab, used as bait in dog fighting, or any number of unsavory activities.
Contact rescue agencies in your area. www.petfinder.com is wonderful and will list most Humane agencies and rescues in your area and provide emails addy's and phone numbers for you to check around with. Good luck.

i think it would be extremely hard for the dog to have to go to a fourth owner that it doesnt know, so my advice is to try to get anyone you are in contact with to take him so that you can still visit him. it wont be as hard for him! (or her) :)
