It's called being very shy and socially awkward. So how the hell can that be a mental disorder. Either you work at getting over, learn to fake it or learn to put up with people going "he's okay, he's just a little weird."

Social anxiety takes a lot of forms. The best known, and the most common phobia, is public speaking. Other people have a hard time just communicating with others. There's a whole range of symptoms.

No. It isn't. It is a social disorder. It stems from low self-esteem and low self-image. It means that the self has not evolved to deal with social interaction. It is not mental in the area of the brain that is associated with mental disorders.

Yes. When going to the grocery store or even the mailbox becomes overwhelming then, yeah, thats a mental disorder.
