Matthew 28:19
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

continue that verse - "and you will receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit". Peter was referring to people that were baptizing their children in the name of God. only. We are to baptize using the Trinity. Father, Son and Holy Ghost. When we are baptized by the Trinity, the Holy Ghost helps us learn about Jesus, Jesus helps us learn about His Father. Then by knowing all 3, we know God. Also see Mark 1:1-11 & John 3:5.

Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost........Jesus taught this Himself, as they are red letter words in the KJV. And no, they are not just titles, they are the Supreme being, the Great Power. These were instructions to His deciples also. Read the whole Bible!

Amen....I agree. Most people don't know that those are titles. Now people want to say the father, son and the holy ghost.... is what you suppose to baptize in, that it not true. God said do as I say and not as I do. You have to read and understand God's word. Most people don't! I am glad that some one out there is living a saved life!

I agree! I was just at a water baptism last week and I was angry when they did not baptize in the name of Jesus. To me, it shows lack of understanding. The name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost is Jesus! It does not say, In the name of the Father and in the name of the Son, and in the name of the Holy Ghost! Otherwise it would not be singular. Also it does not say, in the name of Yahwey, Yahoshua, and Kadosh Ruach.

I think this is the main problem with religion. People fight and kill eachother over what they call god (allah, god, buddah...and so on) If you go by everything Jesus also passed on you have to believe all things that the catholic church say (binding in heaven and on earth) because they are decendents of Jesus (because the apostles created the church) you must adhere.. then it breaks down with the reformation, which Luther was a catholic priest at one point and this means he also had this power, so the calvinist movement (started by a non-priest) would have no say, nor would the baptists who came out of calvinism...so in other words don't take anything literally, because you can't win.... I hope you find peace with this and just let your religion improve you and not bother you as to how others move toward god in their own way (whether because of origin or heritage) and check out Mark.... says the trinity not just jesus.

I think we can debate the procedure in Christian baptism, but really the issue isn't what words are said, but rather whether as Christians we answer the call to be baptized. One of the areas I'm unclear about in your question regards infant versus adult baptism, and which denomination you're referring to. (OK, that's two areas).
I'd also like to point out that Jesus was baptized by John, not Peter.

You have to be baptized in the name of the father, son, and holy spirit because Jesus commanded it. God is trinity. He is three persons in one God. Jesus was just one person in the trinity. All three have to be mentioned and worshiped because you can't have one without the other. You seem terribly confused about the nature of the trinity.
