The BMI charts can be quite innacurate for someone who has a healthy amount of muscle. According to BMI, Arnold Schwarzenegger is obese.

The charts are BS!!!!! in most cases. I too am an exception. I stand 5' 10" and weigh 225#. The charts list me as grossly obese yet I have only 14% body fat. Just for the record here are a few other numbers. chest 48" waist 31" hips 33" bicep 19" forearm 15" calf 20" thigh 30" neck 17". Yes, I have a terriffic 6 pack for abs.

I think the problem is that you are very musclular, so your BMI is higher. This is often a problem for athletes, that they would be considered overweight by BMI standards, but they may only have 15% body fat. The best way to ensure you are not unhealthily overweight is to have your body fat percentage checked. You can find body fat calculators on-line, but I'm not sure how accurate they are. If your body fat is between 20%-24%, it is ideal and you do not need to lose any weight. HTH.

Charts are no longer accurate in determining a good weight because they do not take into account your frame size, body type, fat %, water %, or muscle mass. I personally have a significant amount of lean muscle and have been athletic all my life (i'm a university varsity athlete and personal trainer), and charts like this tell me i'm borderline obese, which is obsurd. The best way to determine your weight status is by going to your doctor or gym where they can assess you with up-to-date methods that you can't determine by yourself or by any stupid "charts".

Charts aren't that accurate. Do you have alot of muscle? Work with weights? Muscle is heavier than fat. If you work out at a gym you can get an instructor to do a body composition test for you to determine your percentage of body fat. If not, your doctor can do it.

You don't sound fat to me. You should have a body composition analysis. Some scales do that - it tells you what % body fat you have. That tells you more than your weight does, because if you have alot of muscle, sometimes you weigh more.
