If He is a Christian you can give him 1Peter 4: 16
If not you can read the last clause of Hebrews 13:5
You can also try Psalm 27:10, or Psalm 46:1
Or you can remind him that the Lord is always with Him with Psalm 139: 7:13
Last but not least the Beatitudes in Matthew 5: 3&4, you can continue reading the chapter for your own sake but 3 and 4 are for him

Sorry I coudn't bless you with more, but memory will not allow, God bless

Here are two out of the ordinary. I choose them to remind him that no matter what, our God is there even when our loved ones go to join Him. We must try to remember the best of times and know that we will be with them on the other side. I lost my sister, my brother and my other brother. They did not make it to middle age. I miss them, but I find comfort in the Lord and the Psalms are a great lifter of our heads, not just Psalm 23. Go there. You will enjoy the feast from that table. God bless you both.

John 14
Jesus Comforts His Disciples
1"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God[a]; trust also in me. 2In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. 3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4You know the way to the place where I am going."

2 Corinthians 4:8-10

8We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; 9persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. 10We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.

John 5:25, 28,29 ..(Jesus said); "Most truly I say to you, The hour is coming, and it is now, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who have given heed will live... Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming, in which all those in the MEMORIAL TOMBS will hear his voice and COME OUT, those who did good things to a resurrection of life,..

John 11:25, Jesus said to her; "I am the resurrection and the life. He that exercises faith in me, even though he dies, will come to life;..

2Corinthians 1:3-7 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those in any sort of tribulation through the comfort with which we ourselves are being comforted by GOD. For just as the sufferings for the Christ abound in us, so the comfort we get also abound through the Christ.....Just as you are sharers of the sufferings, in the same way you will also share the comfort.

We are pressed on every side, but not crushed;perplexed, but not in despair;perscuted, but not abandoned;struck down, but not destroyed-2Corinthians 4:8-9

Life can be very hard sometimes, but if you belong to Christ, you always have sure hope. You may feel pressured, but you won't be broken.Situations may leave you bewildered and confused, but never without hope. You may be suffering, but you are never destroyed or left behind. You may feel struck down temporarily, but you will never be ruined.

I know he is in the middle of a heavy trial right now-talk to God frequently.Draw on his courage and hope."Yet in all things we were more then conquerors through him who loved us" (Romans 8:37)

No longer will violence be heard in your land,
nor ruin or destruction within your borders,
but you will call your walls Salvation
and your gates Praise.
The sun will no more be your light by day,
nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you,
for the LORD will be your everlasting light,
and your God will be your glory.
Your sun will never set again,
and your moon will wane no more;
the LORD will be your everlasting light,
and your days of sorrow will end.
-Isaiah 60:18-20

In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world

Read a Proverb a day, there are 31 Proverbs for 31 days in a month. With each reading your Wisdom grows, with better wisdom you would be able to comfort your Son In Law, with a sharp clear mind, and be able to discern what his inner being needs while guided by God's wisdom, to "locate" the necessary passage to share with him to lighten his burdensome heart.

Yes, I know they're Psalm, but they really are good ones

Psalm 30:5b "Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning."

Romans 14:8 "For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we ar ethe Lord's."

I had a few more good ones, but right now I cant find them. I shall try to get back to you when I can relocate them. It does figure that now that I am looking for them, I can't find them...

Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

John 16: 33"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."

Remind your son in law that this life is short, and soon he will be reunited with his brother for all eternity in the prescence of a loving, perfect God.
