duh... is not really a word so much as it is a sound... it's supposed to be like a *ahem* retarded person (sorry if I offend anyone there)... its said when the answer to a question should be obvious, like if you see someone come in from outside and theyre all red and sweaty and you say "Oh is it hot out there?" the obvious answer would be yes... So DUHHH!!!

Ha ha. No, it's just slang someone would use to poke fun at you for not knowing that the answer is obviously yes. It means "Of course yes, how could you think otherwise!".

"Duh" is meant to sound like a grunt from a stupid person. When used as a reply to a question, it suggests that the asker was an idiot to have had to ask such a simple question.

On the bright side, this is usually done in jest, and not meant to be hurtful.

"Duh" is supposed to be a word that people say when they're not very intelligent.

Therefore, saying "duh" as an answer to a question means that the answer to the question is so obvious in the affirmative that even a slow person can figure it out.

The US English slang exclamation duh is used to express disdain for someone missing the obviousness of something. For example, if you read a headline saying "Scientific study proves pain really does hurt", the response may well be "Well, duh!".

It is meant to mean:

"What a stupid question!"

It's like... the answer is SO obvious, you have to be really stupid to not know it.
