Depends on how I am eating it!
For just munching raw, or with peanut butter or bleu cheese, a good sweet organic Fuji or Braeburn is wonderful.
But for baked apples, apple pies, apple betty, it's gotta be a Granny Smith. The sweet/tart balance is just right to counterbalance the sugar and honey in the recipe and the firm texture is ideal to stand up to oven heat... anything sweeter or softer just doesn't work.

I live on the west coast and found a very good all-purpose apple called a Cameo It is sweet and very perfumy holds up well in pies and good to eat raw also I don't know how available it is and the season is short but oh so good if you can find it

I did so much research on apples recently because I bought some that looked so good and they were gross...they were grainy...do you know what I mean by that? They were Braeburn. Maybe they were just old. But I bought some great apples the other day and they are Fuji.

The absolute best apple is the Pink Lady. Its sweet and has a nice texture. My daughter and I can't wait till apple season when the Pink Ladies are plentiful!

I'm a granny smith gal. It's like eating a Sour Punch straw, or something.
