Hmmm, nice pic - is that you? This Religion folder has some interesting folks posting.
I think the devil's greatest trick would probably be tricking man into doubting his existence, because logically if people didn't believe in his existence, idols of the devil wouldn't entice anyone.

He has many tricks. First off, he is a LIAR! He likes to deceive us to believe that we can be good enough to make it into Heaven or get us to believe that Hell does not exist. He likes to destroy families and relationships. He laughs at us when we become addicted to drugs and alcohol. He enjoys delaying our prayers to discourage us by wrecking our faith. He likes to distort the truth by mixing the truth with subtle lies. He also tries to get us to believe that abortion is not murder and that it is OK to do whatever we want. That there is no absolute truth. That we evolved from nothing with no evidence. That there is no God, or that we can do things to appease His anger. That we have time and many chances to straighten our lives up. We can always do it tomorrow, but tomorrow may not come for some. That our desires and our addictions define who we are and what we like. False religions are led by Satan and his demons. He causes strife between nations and causes them to war. He lulls us into chasing after happiness or the cares of this world and causes some of us to enter a deep sleep or a drunken stupor. He only comes to steal, kill, and destroy. When all is said and done, the whole world will look at him in wonder and ask themselves how such a small puny being caused all our world all our pain and suffering. And one day, him and all his followers, those who refused and rejected God's Salvation, Jesus the Christ, will be tormented forever in the Lake of Fire.

They're both the same thing. People who follow the false idols do so because they doubt the existence of god or the devil.
Not that I subscribe to any of this.

"...was convincing humanity that he didn't exist." Not doubting his existance, convincing them. Eliminating doubt as well. Idols aren't new and don't require the intervention of Satan, humans are quite capable of making them all on our own.
