I'm in British Columbia, Canada, and I don't agree with "pinkfluffies" at all. We don't have the "illegal" immigration problem here to the extent that the USA does, but we have a large amount of legal immigrants and there doesn't seem to be a problem over it, that I have heard of. I live in Vancouver, which is the largest city in BC, but I also visit some of the smaller communities. It only makes sense that we wouldn't have the same amount of illegal immigrants that the USA does, because we don't have the border with Mexico that the USA has. If we did, we would be in the same position as the USA is, presently. We have some illegal immigrants but, by and large, I believe they mostly have money because they would have had to come here mainly by ship or plane, in the first place. We probably have a lot of "visa overstays" who have come to be with legally immigrant family members and they probably just meld in with them. Since most of our immigrants are legal and with money, they probably employ their own family members in their own businesses and so they never come out openly as being illegal immigrants. I don't think illegal immigrants in Canada bother to try to use social services and I don't think we have the "anchor" baby problem that happens in the USA. While I think a child born in Canada would be considered a Canadian citizen, I don't think the illegal parents try to take advantage of social services because of it. I never hear of illegal immigrants using stolen SINs in Canada (Canada's version of SSNs - stands for "Social Insurance Number"). I think that our illegal immigrants are basically looked after by their legal immigrant family members and rarely ever show up as "illegal." While their children may well enroll in our schools, it does not seem to be to the extent that illegals' children do in the USA and, for the most part, I believe our illegals' children probably know English well (most coming from fairly well off families) and so they don't have a problem in our schools and don't cause the damage to our children's' educations that happens in the USA.

As well, I don't see the racism that pinkfluffies above talks about. Maybe she is from Eastern Canada and things may be different in that way, but here in Western Canada, I don't see the racism. Our immigrants are more Asians than anything else. We don't have the large number of poor Mexican and Central American immigrants, legal and illegal, that the US has.

However, more and more, we are getting some of the mostly Central American illegals that are in the USA and they come on up into Canada (crossing the border through the bush areas, rather than through the customs checkpoints) as they are evading deportation from the USA. Once in Canada, they tend to be selling crack cocaine in downtown Vancouver. So, we don't get the "honest ones who just want to work hard and help their families back home." We get the ones who have decided that real good money can be made selling crack cocaine and, while they may be sending a large amount of money back home, they sure don't have to work too hard for it. In these cases, we are getting the scum of the scum of the illegal immigrants from the USA. This problem has only been in our local news in the last couple of years, so I expect it to continue to get bigger and bigger as word spreads amongst the illegals in the USA that they can hie on up over the Canadian border to evade the US immigration.

I was surprised to find out that some people in the major metropolitan areas in canada are actually racist, and the ones in small counties are more broad minded. I just dont get it! Looks to me like another batch of whiny "oh my god i cant handle competition im such a pussy" kkk wannabes are sprouting everywhere, this current immigration issue is just a frigging excuse to wear that white hood.

I am Canadian and I honestly don't care, they're just normal ppl like anyone else in my opinion and they should be treated like anyone else unless of course they walk around with guns and start blowing up ppl...but that goes for everyone who'd ever do that lol.

Canada loves immigrants as long as they bring lotsa money with them. Otherwise, they prefer to see them go to the US.

canadians are actually more open-minded than some Americans..

i've noticed that they don't really care whether someone is "legal or not", they just do what they do and they live and let live..
