Unless you get an attorney, you won't win. Speeding tickets are very hard to beat--you have to go after the radar gun (was it properly calibrated) and the officer (was he properly trained). Were the cops playing chasers? Can always use the Hearsay exception if they were. Good luck.

You can't tell the judge that you were just driving with the flow of traffic or that your speedometer was broken as some people have suggested. They are both admissions of guilt and that is all the judge is going to want to hear.
Counting on the police officer not to show up is old school as well. It is a possibility but only a slim one and depending on the mood of the sitting judge could be in your favor but again that is just a slim chance. The DA would just ask for a continuance.
In most jurisdictions DAs won't amend tickets over 20 miles over the speed limit so you are going to have to go in front of the judge whether you decide to plea or not. If you are going to contest the ticket then your only chance would be to create doubt in the judge's mind about the validity of the officer's stop. Were there other vehicle's present? Did he use radar or did he pace you. On a hill, etc.etc.
Plan on paying the ticket. $250 is cheap. That would be almost $500 in my area with all of the court cost and fees added on.

There really is no excuse; I would know, I have had five speeding tickets in 10 years. One traffic school instructor said that most people are speeding and if you got a ticket, it was just your time. At some point, it will be the others' time, too, for a ticket.
Also, judges don't really listen to the public in traffic court. Police officers who show up are more credible, since they were just doing their jobs.
Just pay the ticket and try to go to traffic school so it doesn't give you points on your driving record (if your state does this).

The judge will always agree with the policeman. Especially in a speeding case. What you should do is plead guilty and then ask the judge to lower your ticket and let you do volunteer work. Some states pay you ten dollars an hour (which is deducted from your total ticket price). Say that you work full time and you have dependents (if you really do have dependents). If you are a student, you should say that you are a student and you work and that this ticket is way too much for you. Good luck.

If you have a good driving record, ask the judge to take the ticket under advisement for six months. Then, immediately sign up for a driving school approved by the court where you received your ticket.
Upon completion of driving school, ask the judge to dismiss the ticket.
However, you ticket was for 25mph over. That's serious.
Try that. If it works no points and your insurance won't go up. I

Excuses don't work sometimes the truth or a good story will sap leniency but speeding is a strict liability law you either sped or didn't. Take like and adult pay the ticket (although it wouldn't hurt to ask the county / city attorney to drop it down a few mph so it doesn't cost you so much).

the only other thing you could is go to a driving defense class and maybe it will help with the ticket. You probably will have to pay for the ticket

None. All they want is their damn money, and police are turned into meter maids by the cities demanding they write tickets. You should plead no contest, and ask to have no points assigned. That's your best bet.
80 in a 55 IS too fast as well. Slow down, save a life.

Tell them your speedometer wasn't working properly and you thought you were going the speed limit but after taking it to the shop and having them calibrate the speedometer was off by 15 mph.
