Large breed dogs do not have heat cycles until they are internally mature. Usually between 10 to 18 months, but can be as early as 8-12 months. Being internally mature does not mean they are mature enough to breed. Large breeds are considered grown between 24 -36 months.

All dogs get their first heat at age 6 months. But not advisable to mate them until they are a year old or more.
