I know discussion about reicarnation had been cirling on these boards many times before, but i got to have my 2-cents on it. I'll leave out the details on what is "reincarnation" b/c if you don't know what it mean you have no bussiness answering this question. In recent years, the concept of reincarnation has grasp wide attention among Americans. Either it is negative or positive, the idea of reincarnation is opposing to "heaven" or shall i say very different from each other. Perhaps, many of us are brought up with the notion of heaven, which led us to disregard reicarnation in our possibilities. Reincarnation is it good or bad? What harms or good will it have on humanity? Society? Why is it so intriguing for some? Why do some oppose to it as rediculous? Although i am a buddish I am open for disscusion. I seek "truth" and kowldege. Please explain in a logical manner.

I can't say that I believe in it, but it makes more sense then a lot of the other beliefs out there. I mean if the whole point is life is to strive for perfection, I find it hard to believe that it could be done in one life time. Knowing what you were in your last life would cause problems, so if it does happen, maybe that's why we can't remember what we were.

To answer your question, I feel that reincarnation is neither good or bad. It is just simply a paranormal reality and not up to being judged by my mere opinion. As so the world turns whether or not I want it to, so too does reincarnation weave a web through our lives - whether it's existence is proven, denied, believed or ridiculed.
Some may see it as a "waiting" period before the Rapture. Others may see it differently. I see it as a means of evolving one's soul until it's at the brink of perfection, then finally connecting with the creative force of the universe, however that may be referred to. It is my understanding that the human soul is nothing more than a "ball" of energy - the body being the vessel. It has been said that energy can neither be created nor destroyed, it just simply moves on from place to place to place, infinitely. I feel this to be true of souls/spirits. And I could go on about the subject, but I'll refrain...
It's probably intriguing for people because we all come from many different backgrounds and we each bring something different to the table. I can't begin to explain why some find the entire notion ridiculous. One might say that they haven't found the time to stop and watch the changes of the season, for the proof of the pudding is right before our eyes.
As for the link below, this is the only definitive proof I've ever seen. It is definetly food for thought.

You have a very good question. I am not sure why so many people oppose this line of thinking. I know that Christians hold that we are born and we go to heaven. But maybe Reincarnation in the christian thoughts have some validity. Not sure but why if God has put us here and he has died for our sins or his son has why can't we come back for another chance. To see if this time we can be better. To find our real destiny if we missed it the first time. Reincarnation fits well in the Christian and Jewish and even Islamic religions.
There is not harm in believing in reincarnation, as there is no harm believing in anything that is good and helps harmony in the world.
Many oppose the thought of reincarnation as they believe it goes against their fundamental christian beliefs. Also there is no mention of it in the Bible and if there is not mention of it there then it must not be true. There is not harm or good to humanity or to the society as a whole if you believe in Reincarnation. The trouble comes when people believe you are trying to attack their center of balance to their lives. They feel threaten and are at first afraid to even think of the possibilities. But they have their faith so they don't want to be threatened by someone trying to destroy it.
I know you are not and I believe there are some factual things that have happened in this world to give some credence to the possibility you maybe right. That is want scares them so denial is the first response to possibility. Not like all religions even Buddhist is believed all on faith. Not one single what to prove either ones religion.
Hang in there.

I am Catholic and obviously do not believe in reincarnation because there is heaven, purgatory, and hell. I believe that every human has a soul and when the body dies, the soul leaves them and goes to one of these places. Never to another being to live another life as someone or something else.
I think it is appealing to some to think that if we could have another chance at this life from another perspective we would learn not to repeat the same mistakes in the next life on earth. The hope to be someone else and at new hand of cards maybe more powerful or attractive or rich, that is what is intriguing about it.

You are not finish here leaving coming back until all the wrong has been punished and and all the goods have been rewarded then once the scales are balanced do you move to another realm! i am not Buddhist which i suppose you are yet i am familiar with the doctrine and love the spirituality and follow the path of spirituality taught by Buddha!

Reincarnation is not opposed to heaven. I believe that when we die we cross over to live in the love of the Lord. We can choose to come back for another life as a learning experience. Children will sometimes remember a past life because they still have recent memory of the other side. Jesus refers to others having lived before but of course the fanatics will deny that as 'interpretation'. I don't believe that we cross species.

There is one big pit fall that plagues reincarnation. Some people will look at a person who is born with disabilities or into a horrible home (abuse etc) and think they must have done something wrong in their past lives. As such it gives yet another excuse for self-righteous people to treat others badly.
My personal take is that those who are suffering must have done some things really, really right in their past lives because they are choosing to learn the really tough lessons this time around. The ones having a hard time are the people I need to be around because I can learn so much from them.
Blessed Be,
Pabs

I believe that believing in reincarnation is bad because it gives people a false hope that they will be able to get another chance to get straight with God after they die. We only get one time around in life and "IF" we blow it, that's it! So sad, too bad! I know that many people have spiritual awakenings that lead them to believe that they had a past life. The Bible calls them, familar spirits. The thing that they fail to understand, is that the human body is made up of body, soul, and spirit. Their spirit may have lived in a past life, but not our soul. It is difficult to know where our soul ends and where the spirit begins. When we turn from our sins and accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, God gives us a new Spirit, The Holy Spiritt! That is why we are called "Born Again". The Bible calls us new creatures. This new Spirit can change our desires and our behavior if we let Him. After a while we become one with God, Himself, who is the Holy Spirit! We can grow strong in the Lord if we meditate on His Word, the Bible. God is so good, come and taste and see. Turn from your sins and "Receive Ye The Holy Ghost!"

Reincarnation gives our spiritual beings time to evolve and grow closer to God. Every life is different with different set of circumstances and longevity. The possibility of not continuing is nihilistic and the eternal Heaven or Hell scenario lacks a sense of fairness and especially the virtue of compassion.

Re-incarnation as I understand it now, is nothing BUT positive for us as individuals and as humanity.
It is a learning curve for our mistakes AND what we do right.
We take our life lessons and learn from them and then as we are reborn, we have the knowledge inherent in us.
Have you ever known somebody that was exceptionally good at something, without working at it...? This is a good example of life after life after life..........
