Unfortunately you're gonna get raped on your interest rate.... just a fact of having bad credit. All dealerships have credit mender type loans with insane interest rates (over 14% and I've heard of up to 30%).

The little lemon lots that just sell used cars are going to roll you for even more money and put you in a crappy car.

Best bet is to suffer a car you can afford with the cash you have on hand now... save up and get your credit situation in better shape and then make a run on a better car. Get a copy of your credit report (federal law allows everyone to receive one free report per year) and find out what everything means on it... Get online and talk to people to see if you can get some of the reports resolved or completely removed. The reporting agencies work slower than the government so don't get impatient... just be persistant with them knowing that they move slow.

Keep in mind that the small, used car places prey on folks with bad or no credit and are there to take advantage of you. They will play on any guilt you feel about your credit, they will roast you for not paying your bills in the past and feed you a load of crap to make you believe that this is as good as it gets... Walk away.

Good luck with this one. Congrats on your job and keep your jackas* radar on when you look at cars.

TRY TO FIND A DEALER THAT DOES NOT RUN A CREDIT CHECK. LOCAL NISSAN DEALER DOES THIS QUITE OFTEN. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS BRING A PAY STUB AND 50% DOWNPAYMENT.

IF YOU HAVE GREAT JOB, THEN SAVE FOR COUPLE OF MONTHS AND PAY CASH FOR A CAR. $3000-$5000 IS ALL YOU NEED FOR A 5 YEAR OLD RELIABLE CAR.

Go to a car dealer. They can usually work out something. If not, go to another car dealer. You can go to a bunch in a week before they show up on your credit.

If you like the car, get it.

Don't believe a dealer if he says he's the only one who could approve you. If he can, someone else can too.
