I met a man in France some years ago who told me he had dual citizenship in the US, but that the US would not allow him to keep dual citizenship past the age of 18. He said France had no problem with it, though. I assumed he was telling the truth, but now I wonder - does anyone know the US's attitude on dual citizenship? A reference would be nice.

Your friend had been misinformed. The US does not have and has never had a law against dual citizenship, nor a requirement to choose one citizenship over another at a certain age - although many other countries do.

The USA does allow Dual-citizenships, along with other countries...

most countries in Europe and parts of latin america allow you to do so

As far as I can remember that sounds about right. Its been a long time since I've dealt with it, sorry. But if I recall, he had the option at 18 to chose citizenship of the country he'd prefer. I would contact INS I'm sure they have a website, and just inquire about that. Good luck.

i am a dual citizen \
actually i am an american citizen and
a euro nation citizen.
now i only have to work on the australian one

seriously some countries automatically drop your citizenship if you pick up another one.
well in my case my country gives citizenship by blood ( your mother and your father is a citizen there)
