His age would be appropriate inorder to really help. Homosexually inclined young men do funny things to their rear ends.

A real enema with a little soap might solve the issue if he is not yet sexually inclined. You REALLY need to examine what he has eaten in the past 48 hours and provide a few more details.

My son also had this problem when he was 3. My doctor told me to cut down on his dairy intake. Also have him drink lots of water and increase his fiber. My son loves broccoli. It is a good source of fiber and calcium. You can also try a dry cereal he likes. His doctor also prescribed a powdered stool softener called Miralax. You just add a capful in his juice once a day until he has a bowel movement. Then every other day after a bowel movement for about a week to make sure he's really got it all out. It worked great and its not like a harsh laxative which can cause painful cramps. It also doesn't have a taste! You may want to ask his doctor about this. Good luck as I know this is very worrisome for a mother. This actually happens to a lot of children and they usually outgrow it. My son did!
P.S. Someone above mentioned apple juice and prune juice. If your son has gone 3 weeks being constipated, these juices can cause really painful cramping. You need something like the Miralax that will actually soften the stool so it can be passed without discomfort. Trust me, I went through it with my son for 3 years.

Need sons age. That determines alot on what you would do. As a general rule, increase amount of water/juice intake. Whats his diet consist of? What natural things have you tried(prunes or prune juice, fiber(found in cereals, fruits and veggies)?Childhood constipation is common and usually resolves itself. Bowel habits and diet are usually the reason but i would defiantly let the doc. know he is still having problems. More problems can follow if this becomes a chronic constipation issue.

You have not stated the age of your boy. If he is not yet a teenager take him to a paediatrcian (a child specialist) and have him examined for proper diagnosis and treatment. If he is already a teenager (i.e. above 12 yrs old) then take him to a good general physician. Constipation that has lasted 3 wks is bad for the boy's overall health and he should be properly treated. Don't waste time.

Go back to the doctor and INSIST on tests. He could have an intestinal blockage of some kind. In the meantime, have him drink more fluids. Most of it will come out as urine so it shouldn't affect the bowel issue other than possibly get things moving.

One more thing: If his belly is hard or rigid, it's a medical emergency. Also, if he is experiencing pain, I would have it checked out asap.

giving him a high fiber diet and drinking LOTS of water is the healthiest way. also getting exercise helps. if that doesnt work, try putting secrets of the psylium into orange juice. it adds fiber and helps constipation. if youre consistent with this it should work but if not take him to the doctor and get a colonoscopy or something. this is very serious it could turn into cancer or diverticulitis.

Hi Faith,

It depends on what age is your son.

Anyway, if your son is a child, you might be better off relying on natural stuff to help him. There are a few things you can do...

1) Feed him prune juice

2) Let him drink loads and loads of water to loosen his stools and help them come out.

3) Feed him loads of fruits and vegetables.

3) Let him take some natural fibre product. I would recommend Fibre Plus because my fren's son who constipated at 1 year old took it and was able to go poo after that.

I recommend Fibre Plus because it is 100% natural and unlike most fibre products with laxative, it just has some natural fruit and veg essense to help to loosen stools and fight constipation.

If you want more info about Fibre Plus, please email me at verityy@yahoo.com.

Good luck!

I suspect your son's case might be similar to mine, but as with all medical matters, please don't take my word for it, but get professional advice.

I had something similar for quite a while as well, but it seems like in my case, the problem was psychological, stress-related. I had alternating consipation and diarrhea for several weeks. The doctor advised me that it would go away once my stress goes away. Its similar to the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. No known cure for it exists, but it sure would help if your son were to stop worrying about it and try to get on with life normally as best as he could. I struggled with pain for weeks before it finally subsided. If visiting doctors to get medication can help to alleviate the stress, then please go ahead.

Increase the fruits and vegetables in his diet and make sure he gets plenty of fluids especially water. Cut back on the fast food and the processed foods and see if that helps. Peace!
