Spiritual growth. For most people, they only get fed spiritually, by church. For others, they fellowship among other believers. It is important to stay HOT for the Lord.
Do Not Quench the Spirit
Ephesians 4:30
A campfire needs fuel to burn. Campers will add dry sticks and leaves to keep the flames high and hot, but when it is time to sleep, they will either starve the fire or forcibly put it out with water or dirt.
The Lord has lit a fire in every believer’s heart. We must learn to heed Paul’s warning against quenching the Spirit and tend the flame of faith with care (1 Thessalonians 5:19). A newly saved person is sealed forever as a child of God by the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit. Nothing can expel Him from their being. But with our actions and attitudes, we can stifle His voice. As Christians, we are to walk by the Spirit, relying upon Him to give guidance and fulfill our needs. When we choose to sin, however, the Spirit of God is muffled and consequently unable to operate as He normally does. It is as if we throw cold water on our heart’s fire.
Saying no when the Spirit prompts us to obey is rebellion. If we do not prayerfully deal with the fallout from our disobedience, we begin to drift away from the Lord. Other interests pull our attention away from reading the Bible and talking with God. Church loses its appeal. Our hungering and thirsting after the things of Christ wanes so we cease to feed our soul. Our faith fire slowly starves into ash.
Believers must fuel their flame with spiritual “kindling” — prayer, reading God’s Word, sharing the Gospel, and serving others. A hot fire has cleansing power. When we confess our sins and practice these disciplines, our heart stays clean. And the power of God flows through a clean heart.

My wife and I have found a community of Christ followers that encourage us to grow in our faith. Our church offers classes and sermons that help us to walk the talk. We have gained many friends there. We've joined a small group, which is just a smaller group of individuals from the church that share something in common (ours is the young married couples group) - we meet once a week to discuss and learn about marriage, life and God. We want our son to grow up in such a community. Our small group was at the hospital when he was born, my brothers had went home hours before. They brought us meals for a few weeks. There are easily twenty people I could call on at 4 a.m. in an emergency. I could go on…

We volunteer more, and understand it's value more. Our church is more than just Sunday. Sunday has almost become the after thought to all the other ways we've changed our lives because of this community of people we call a church.

Our church doesn't pass a collection plate, we have a box only if you want to donate. We also don't own our own buiding. All of the equipment has to be packed and unpacked every week by volunteers (including us). We wear jeans and tshirts and the band plays more rock style Christian music. We have tattoo events and we even had a Lord of the Rings movie marathon open to the public.

Well, the church is a community. If you want to know why I am involved in the community, that's just everyday life. However...

Church services (for me is Mass being that I'm catholic) I go because: 1) God made it a rule, 2) to worship our Lord as it is the highest form of worship you can participate in, 3) to recieve the body and blood of Our Lord in the Eucharist, 4) an overall sense of wellbeing it gives me, 5) to listen to the scripture readings and try to apply them to my life, 6) to listen to the priests homily and try to learn, 7)....ummm.....

Church is the body.... if you do not attend then the body is missing a part... bodies with missing parts do not function as well as a whole.... don't go for what you can get out of it, go for what you can put into it.....

I don't it hurts to go in. Every time I step foot in one, I feel a horrible pain in body. Like I'm being ripped in two. It hurts so much. I also had a bad incident with holy water. The Preacher threw it on me and it scarred me. Lucky it was only a minor flesh wound.

so you can be forced to pay a tithe to the church. meaning 10 percent of your total income. sounds like fun doesnt it? its also to make you feel high and mighty to those that feel attending a church is for weak minded individuals that cant find a meaning for their lives on their own.

I would not go to any Church because the Scriptures calls them whore houses.

So I can spend time with the Lord and thank him for everything he has done for me and my family. Also, to ask for forgiveness of my sins, and to pray for good things, like health, ending the war, and peace throughout the world.

The same reason, if you don't live with your parents, you go home to see them. I go to be closer to Christ and God. " When 2 or more of you are gathered in my name, I will be there."
