It doesn't hurt to keep a bottle of wine and a bottle of juice. I also keep coffee (decaf, regular and French roast), basic tea, green tea, and decaf tea. I keep honey, artificial sweeteners, sugar and lemon so I can offer anyone whatever drink they'd like. I also keep spring water. You can keep a nice package of cookies unopened as well.

The house should be clean.

A couple of bright, cheerful potholders and/or over mits ad color and friendliness to the kitchen. So do a couple of placemats. Some nice candy in a dish or jar is friendly. Putting the cookies out on a plate or else crackers and cheese - also friendly.

The bathroom should have a new roll of tissue and maybe an extra roll within view, an air freshener, a box of tissues, aspirins and maybe antacids. Liquid soap is nicer because it doesn't mean many people share the same bar on the sink.

Some flowers on a table or breakfast bar are nice and friendly, but if flowers really aren't "you" then a little plant is good too. A couple of plants in other areas of the house are also nice, Philodendrons (sp?) and jade plants don't want much water and kind of grow without sun as well.

Some music that can fade into the background is nice.

Plug-in air fresheners or the ones that stand by themselves but have a fan in them (Air Wick Mobile/lavender and chamomile) make it nicer.

Lamp lighting is warmer. Having some decent looking curtains/shades on the window is something many young men don't bother with and maybe should.

* A few decorations (ie. plants/flowers, etc.)
* A welcome mat at the front door, haha
* Every home needs a nice scent. Maybe spray some air freshener before the guests arrive or bake some cinnamin rolls
* Serve some hor d'ourveres (sp?) and ask them if they'd like a refreshment
* Make sure the house is clean @ all times

That's all I can think of! Besides, what makes the home is the person who lives in it. As long as ur curteous and respectful, everything should go well

Have bottled water and soft drinks available plus snacks in case your guests are hungry. Turn on your a/c to a cool 76 degrees or less. Guests want comfort. And most importantly, make sure the apartment is clean and tidy. I wouldn't want to visit a slob who has a sink full of dirty dishes, laundry on the floor and shoes lying around.

Well yes it's nice to offer people something to drink and maybe something to eat, it doesn't have to wine or juice , it could be coffee or tea, iced tea etc.

Smile when people visit you, don't make them feel like they've interrupted something important(even if they have). Make polite engaging conversation. Have them have their drinks in a comfortable spot , the patio or terrace in summer, the living room or a cosy kitchen. Make your guests feel comfortable in the best way you know , treat them as you would want to be treated by others.

It's not about the home, it's about the host/hostess. A person who acts genuinely happy to see his guest will make the guest feel relaxed

Cook a good meal. The smell of the food cooking will make visitors feel welcome, and serving the meal to visitors is a friendly thing to do.

Just invite them over for a definite and specific time. I have frirends who tell me to "drop by anytime!" but I'd never. I hate popcorn visits. Instead, ask me and mine to come by Friday at 5pm for appetizers and cocktails and I'm there!

Smile and welcome them in - a bottle of wine can't hurt either. Make sure your place in clean, including the bathrooms!
