If it's brand new and you're looking for about a five year usage anything is ok. But if used or something you want to keep for a long time go for a Honda or Toyota. You can get a Civic, Corolla, Camry or an Accord for a reasonable price. They're long lasting, very reliable and gets good gas mileage.
If you're buying a used car, try as much as possible to get a one or two owner at the most with all maintenance records. If the car has had regular oil changes and maintenance stuff taken care of in a timely manner, they will last a pretty long time. Specially Toyota and Honda.
The Hyundai cars, while not all that popular have some really good looking models coming out. And the best part of it is that it comes with a 10 year or 100,000 mile warranty which nobody else but KIA (which is not as good) offers.

If I was going for a first car and was female I would want a brand new trouble free with warranty car. But with that comes car payments! Building credit is not a bad thing. Get Daddio Or Momsey to buy, A VW BUG most expensive. Or in at under $15,000 Toyota Yaris, Or Honda Fit, or better yet! The new Nissan Versa!

A Camaro a couple of years old, v6!!! Oh, yea! I had 2 of them the v8 ate more gas the v6 is perfect. I loved my ttops and the car is roomy yet sporty. Very comfortable and the crash test rating is very safe. Guys love girls in those type cars because everyone gets the boring foreign economy cars. I can't stand a car with no power, had a honda and almost got killed entering a free way because I could not pick up speed, I had to turn off the AC to get it moving.

I would recommend a Honda Civic. If you have a co-signer, they have some great 1st time buyer incentives, Hondas are very dependable, get great gas mileage, have a good warantee & lots of trunk space, plus - the best part - they retain their value way better than any other vehicle! Even if you have to get a used one, you can still know that you're getting a great car. Good luck!

First, how old are you and how much driving experience do you have and what kind of experience(i.e. - highway, heavy traffic, small town driving) did you take a defensive driving course?
I strongly suggest for a new driver a heavy, mid-size to large vehicle with a long wheel base and that is not top heavy. NO sports car and NO motorcycles. it needs to be in good condition and get good gas mileage. Will you be doing a lot of traveling and is your daily round trip to work and/or school involve lots of miles or highway driving?

I would go totally by safety ratings. Which you can find here at this link;
http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/testing/ncap/
there is a section where you can pick a year, make and model of a car and it will come up with the safety ratings for that car in that year. Safety ratings rate the car and how it reacts to a crash. After you find some safe cars in your price range, then pick which one you think is the best fit for you! Be safe and happy driving! :)

A used BMW. Full sized spare and good lug wrench/jack set, key-only entry into trunk, excellent steering performance, low repair incidences, etc. I have a 12 year onld one and a 19 year old one in the family and will continue to keep them!

Get a used Honda Del Sol - V
Probably runs around $5,000 depending on where you live.
It's a Honda so you know it's reliable, gets good gas mileage, and you can take the hard top off.

if you can find a good used Toyota corolla to buy ,,that would be the car to buy,,there very dependable,,very cheap on gas,,easy to maintain,,and they look good,,as well as drive good,,and you can usually find a good one,,they hold there value good also,,you can put 300 thousand miles on it,,and it will still run like it did when it had 50 thousand on it,,i own a repair shop,,and i don't get many in here to repair,,so that tells me there pretty good cars,,although its bad for my business,,because i don't get many of them to work on,,but if you want reliability ,,that would be the car to own,,i hope this help,s.
