I am looking for a good form of excersize to loose some weight... (about 30-40 pounds)..

I currently weigh 165-170 pounds, and i am 6 foot 1... I think i look ok, and i can do physically straining things.. But i just want to be the skinny guy that everyone is.. im not fat, but im not skinny.. i guess you can put it that way...

Well anyways, i played Dance Dance Revolution for the first time at a party, and i loved it. So i bought the game at WalMart a couple days ago and have been playing it like non stop...
And when i play it, i am not that good yet, so i can only play on Light (the second setting)... And I am like sweating alot...

So is ddr a good way for me to lose extra weight? Or should i go about this a different way?

Thank you lots..

=p

I think it is an awesome way to exercise! When you get your heart pumping for an extended amount of time it is definately going to help you tone up and lose some weight. I love doing it, have lost a few pounds myself and it is fun! You should check it out a bit more, there is even a workout mode you can put it on. Have fun and good luck! (And way to go being in light mode, took me forever to get out of beginner mode!)

Short answer: Yes, it is.

Now, on my game, there is a training mode on it. You enter in your stats (weight, age, 'nonstop' and what not), and while it's on you can play the game as you normally do.
With "NonStop" mode on, no matter how many mistakes you make, it will continue playing until the end of the song, but you may still fail after it's done.
What training mode actually -does- is that it keeps track of calories you burn and... if I remember correctly, how many pounds you lose. I may be wrong on that.
Several warnings.
Eat properly, and when you get tired, take a break. Don't do it every day, especially if you do it a lot. Take a few days off, just like any excercise.
Also, it won't work on your upper half (muscle wise) as much, due to the lack of working on that, so don't expect muscles or toning. At most, loss of weight - and too much is not good.
Don't eat then dance, or dance then eat; wait a half hour or more before you play, or fifteen-thirty minutes after dancing to eat - if you don't push yourself too hard, though, you can eat right afterwards.
Last thing is that you should avoid straining your legs too much.

I hope you have fun playing DDR and get a lot better at it! And don't worry - I'm also still on light mode, and then only 3-4 'feet' (starred/levelled) songs.

Hey, Great question.
I just bought one this weekend -- for the same reason... to exercise, lose weight and to have fun ....
In the store there were two guys that had it on the most difficult song ever and it was amazing watching them do it in tandem, almost like they were tap dancing.
anyhow, I think you'll like it and have fun with it.
As previous people stated, don't over do it -- meaning take every third or fourth day off -- you don't want to burn out or hurt your feet/knees. I'm planning on keeping my tennis shoes on and doing it about 20 min per day for the first week (with a rest day built in) and then maybe I'll up it to 30 min per day. I'm just going to try and gauge how I feel -- that is the best indicator.... and even if I'm not very good at it, I'm sure I'll improve -- but the goal is to enjoy and to have fun.
Good Luck!
