Check the school dress code. Most likely they will not care. The only occasion that I can think of in school where socks are mandatory is in gym class during gymnastics.

yes the school will care....
winter means colder weather and not wearing socks might seem like a negligent parent although from your explanation, I can tell you are concerned but irregardless, teachers are bound by ethics to look out for the welfare of their students. Furthermore, many schools require socks year round to prevent the spread of conditions such as warts and athletes foot.
I am a teacher and like your son, I hate socks. From the earliest signs of spring to the last glimpses of fall, I go barefoot in my shoes. Because I live in a climate where snow is prevalent, I must wear socks in the winter. Personally, I like light weight dress socks. I find if I buy good quality dress socks my feet breathe alright and I can tolerate them long enough to get home and free my feet.

Check the dress code. Most schools have a policy that requires socks and closed -toe shoes. Just go to the main office and ask. And aside from the inumerable health issues raised by not wearing socks, that's really freaking gross.

I never thought they would. In our area people avoided whereing sneakers and socks unless in gym. Hell the girls came to school in flip flops rain or snow. Just check the policy, if it doesn't mention socks then they shouldn't be able to say anything.

Never risk an encounter with CPS. Those bas*ard* are too empowered these days. They ignore USA constitutional rights with their bureaucracy. Get the kids to wear socks.

That's not really healthy. They could still catch athlete's foot. The school might care for health reasons. Look in the dress code and if it's not there, call them and ask.
