I think that they should base these things on a students grades and school record all together. Like, if you miss school alot and get bad grades (like d's and f's) your more than likely not a responsible person (that is unless circumstances out of your control causes these things, but that is not the case for most kids). But those who attend school regularly and get good grades are more than likely responsible and dependable. I'm 17 years old and think I'm more than mature enough to have my license...though I know a few who probably won't be mature enough to have them at the age of 30.

There needs to be some kind of intelligence/maturity test before people can drive regardless of age. Still, I believe 16 is a bit too young and the driving age should be raised to 18.

My teen (boy) started driving at 16. There lots of pros and cons. He is now 18 and I think he is a pretty good driver, but it is a nightmare for the parent. You will worry constantly! There is the stage they go through when they try to show out in front of others. But overall, if I had to do it again, I would still let him drive.

What makes 18 year-olds more qualified? From my personal experience, there is little to no difference between the maturity of a person at age 16 and age 18. Those likely to drink and drive at 16 are just as likely (maybe even more so) at the age of 18 to do so. It is completely dependant on the person, and if their parent(s) decide he/she is not mature enough to handle driving on their own, they can keep him/her from driving.

from a mom of 3, two of which are out of the house... NO. and neither have been in a car accident. but i've driven with them. lol and it's mighty scary simply because they are spacy. they talk and answer their cell phones and their distraction level is so high - i just don't even want to think about it! limited to day driving at age 16 and with no passengers. as their age increases, so do the privileges. i think it's the state of arizona that i was impressed with at how they handle it. kids simply do not understand the concept of defensive driving. they still think they are invincible no matter how convincing their arguments are.

My opinion? Some people are extremely responsible at 9 years old, others become 30 and don't know what the hell is responsibility. Make your own conclusions!

It depends on the maturity level and that's hard to decide. And even if you find a mature teenager they may be convinced to do something stupid by their friends, considering they're so young

Some are mature enough, and some are not. My daughter OPTED to wait until she turns 18, and I've never been happier - except I still have to tote her around.

My opinion...No because they aren't mature enough you don't want to know how many kids in my hometown have died in a car wreck it is terrible.I think 18 would be best.

Yes, but if they prove to be too reckless or irresponsible their parents should take the keys away.
