I just recently got 99% on one of my homework assignments, and frankly, I surprised myself. I didn't know I could excel in school when I was a little girl. Is it wrong that I told parents and my hubby about it right away because I was so proud of myself? Should I have kept it to myself and been humble about it?

Of course not. You have every reason to be proud and I am very sorry if your family made you feel differently. They should have also been proud and rejoiced in your good news. I AM PROUD OF YOU...

Please do not let others dictate to you how you should feel, they are insecure and want to hold you down. When you succeed they take it as though you are trying to make them look bad. They are jealous. HOLD YOUR HEAD, YOU ARE ON YOUR WAY TO MAKING BETTER DECISIONS FOR YOURSELF. My parents and husbands put me down my entire life. I got so sick and tired of being held down. When I finally escaped their control, I excelled right to the stars and I am so PROUD of myself. They had such low self esteems, they thought I should too. I was 40 years old before I went to college and I scored high enough on my college entrance exams to be in the honors programs. I was happy, but I was also sad because I wasted so many years being held down

Congratulations on your 99%. You go girl. I hope I didn't jump the gun on this, I get emotional

There can be a fine line between being proud of yourself and being happy about something you accomplished.

I don't think there's anything wrong with sharing your happiness about it with people close to you, especially with the parents who knew you didn't do the same kind of thing as a little girl. If you can't share the nice little things that you accomplish what's left - nothing but the worries or the neutral stuff?

I don't necessarily think this harmless little source of pride is a sin or inappropriate. I'm no Bible scholar, but I think what even religious people mean when they warn against pride is something like the people who would make their house the showplace of the neighborhood but who - behind closed doors - are crummy people who don't care about what's important. Maybe, too, what they mean is being proud of having a flat stomach and showing it off and forgetting (again) what' important in life.

I, personally, find something virtuous about the person who works hard and has a little pride in his/her accomplishment. You weren't looking for adoration of some kind. You were sharing your happiness and maybe even showing your parents that their girl has "gotten there".

Just my opinion, but this would have been the wrong thing to keep you yourself and be humble about. When it comes down to it, in a world that's so full of unpleasant and awful things; wouldn't it be more of a "sin" not share the happy moments with people we're close with?

There is no sin in the pride of one's accomplishments, especially if you allow God to receive the credit for it.. The only "bad" pride is that which places oneself above any others in an attempt to be better than they are. God can show you the difference.

PS: Be proud of your husband as well; many men HATE the idea of a wife bettering herself. I applaud the both of you; you seem to be a truly Christian couple.

Aw, you know you just inspired me... Usually, I'm more caught up in friends, boys and having fun, knowing it could effect my future. I need to promise myself I'll work hard.

Don't be afraid to tell people, be proud. That's a great accomplishment. I would be proud too.

No. Good for you. Take pride in your accomplishments. If you purposely rubbing it in faces then I would say your proud. For you to even ask is saying that your not. I bet your family and hubby are ecstatic. Kudos to you!

Well, sillyrabbit...had you danced around the classroom, rubbing it in classmates' faces, that would have been wrong. But your family supports you and I am sure they would want to share in your joy! Congrats! Keep up the great work!

You got 99% on just ONE of your assignments?? One??

When you can do that consistantly, THEN you have reason to crow about it. I don't mean to belittle your accomplisment....I just think you need to strive for that ALL the time.
