Served an Entire Career in the Military (and I am Female) and like any career -- it has its ups and downs -- but I did enjoy my Military Career overall. It allowed me to see things I could never have even dreamed of, to be places that were only names on a map, was interesting and challenging all the time, gave me the ability to move around and not have the same boring job year after year after year, retrained and cross-trained, climbed the ranks, got plenty of responsibility, and yes, I obtained my Graduate Degree too. Yes, there were service members that I encountered that definitely had the personality to make one's existence a living hell, but for the most part, I found my fellow service members to be genuine, concerned, caring, and had a sense of family out of the whole time.

I loved it. I'm currently in the National Guard, but I got off of active duty with the Army in March after 9 years and 2 Iraq tours. The reason I left active duty was just because I wanted to be stable and live where I wanted to live. The nomadic lifestyle had basically run its course with me, and I was tired of that aspect, however, the rest of my time was great. Made some friends for life, and learned so much in such a short period of time. It would have taken 25 years for me to get the life experiences that I got in a third of that time.
Plus I also experienced what only a tiny fraction of what a regular American will never experience and feel.
I wouldn't trade that for anything and would do it all over again if I had to.

I served nine years in the Virginia Army National Guard and loved it until I got enough rank that my job became more paperwork and less field time. I'd go back in now if I wasn't too old.
The military isn't for everyone and I never enjoyed working with the people who didn't want to be there.

Air Force, 97Th Bombardment Wing! We not negotiate, we just Nukem. But, I enjoyed it, I enlisted on my own free will and picked the job I wanted. Got something easy, I guess. I think when a person Drafted the military pick your job. But, we not had a Draft in many years now, though it could be used if they wanted. If, you not like the sound of Bullets Whizzing past your head, do not be in the infantry or ask to be a Tank Driver. They have most any job you see out on the streets. Cooks, Nurses, Mechanics, Firefighters, Accountants etc.

I served active duty Army, and I loved my job in the military, but there are certain aspects of the military I didn't like. I think the military is a good career for some and a good stepping stone for others.

Everything has it ups and downs, there are many times I love being a navigation electronics technician in the navy. The people you serve with will be the deciding factor. Military service is just that, service. So the idea that it will a giantic party with no consequence is what makes most dislike it.

I served my country aboard the USS VALCOUR AVP55 .These were fond memories that I will always cherish.Good times ,great friends and traveled 36,000 miles every deployment.Served in the Persian Gulf 59-61. I joined the navy at 18 so I wouldn't have to wait for the draft and maybe not get called. If you keep your nose clean and follow instructions ,no problem, it will make a man out of you.You can recieve a hell of an education for free also.

I have been serving in the Army for 15 years. I have also enjoyed my time in the military. Granted there have been tough times in my career but there have also been great times. More great ones than bad ones. I believe that no matter what "job" you may have, you will always have good and bad times. It's how you handle those situations that define who you are and what you make of yourself.

Being an Infantry soldier in the Army was the best time I had ever in my life. The brotherhood/camaraderie was a great experience. The training was physically and mentally challenging. And I encourage everyone to do at least 2-3 years

I served in the Army from 75 to 83. I always siad that one of the biggest mistakes I ever made was getting out. I enjoyed my service enough that I am going back in now that the age limit has been raised. I report Monday morning for my physical.
